Objectives. People with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) show a number of executive function deficits which are related, among other things, to difficulties in perceiving time. Deficiencies in time perception have been demonstrated in children and adults with ADHD. Perception of time is usually measured by quantitative methods at very short time intervals, which are not related to application in everyday life.Methods. The presented mix-methods study therefore focuses on the perception of time in short and long intervals in the context of the actual real life of the subjects. The study presents the results of an analysis of interviews with 20 adults with varying levels of ADHD symptoms, which included 1) a life line technique and a follow-up narrative interview about significant life events and perceptions of their time sequence, and 2) a short stress management interview and subjective efficiency of coping strategies. The respondents were chosen based on their results in the ASRS questionnaire which measures the severity of ADHD symptomatology. The results of the qualitative part were compared with the findings from the quantitative analysis of the development of the scenario of a situation containing a motivational conflict (N = 1518). Results. The results showed that people with ADHD, compared to the control group, more often choose less adaptive solutions in the field of time-related life situations. Nevertheless, in their own lives, most of them were able to state specific procedures that work for them while coping with the burden of ADHD. However, there was a difference in the extent of ADHD symptomatology compensation. External structuring of stress activities (through graphic visualization, e.g.) was most often cited as the best practice. and Problém. Osoby s ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) vykazují řadu deficitů v oblasti exekutivních funkcí, které souvisí mimo jiné i s obtížemi ve vnímání času. Nedostatky v časové percepci byly prokázány u dětí i dospělých s ADHD. Vnímání času je obvykle měřeno kvantitativními metodami na velmi krátkých časových intervalech, které nesouvisí s uplatněním v každodenním životě. Metoda. Prezentovaná studie se smíšeným designem se proto zaměřuje na vnímání času v krátkých i dlouhých časových intervalech v kontextu vlastního reálného života zkoumaných osob. Studie prezentuje výsledky analýzy rozhovorů s 20 dospělými osobami s různou úrovní ADHD symptomů, které zahrnovaly 1) techniku čáry života a na ni navazující narativní rozhovor o významných událostech života a vnímání jejich časové souslednosti a 2) rozhovor o zvládání krátké zátěže s důrazem na subjektivní efektivitu copingových strategií. Tito respondenti byli vybráni na základě výsledků dotazníku ASRS měřící míru ADHD symptomatologie. Výsledky kvalitativní části byly srovnávány se zjištěními z kvantitativní analýzy vývoje scénáře situace obsahující motivační konflikt (N = 1518). Výsledky. Výsledky ukázaly, že osoby s projevy ADHD ve srovnání s kontrolní skupinou v oblasti řešení životních situací souvisejících s časem volí častěji méně adaptivní řešení. Přesto ve vlastním životě byla většina z osob schopna uvést konkrétní copingové postupy, které se jim při zvládání zátěže osvědčují. Odlišnost však existovala s ohledem na míru kompenzovaných projevů ADHD. Jako osvědčený postup byla nejčastěji uváděna externí strukturace zátěžových aktivit (např. za pomocí grafické vizualizace).
Príspevok prezentuje výsledky výskumu týkajúceho sa vzťahu emocionálnej inteligencie (EI) a sociálnej inteligencie (SI) k zvládaniu záťaže. EI sme zisťovali jednak ako schopnosť (SIT-EMO) a jednak ako osobnostnú črtu (TEIQ-ASF). Chápaním príbuzná sociálna inteligencia bola zisťovaná TSIS. Copingové stratégie boli merané dotazníkom CCSC. Výskumnú vzorku tvorilo 104 detí v období ranej adolescencie. Výsledky poukázali na niektoré signifikantné vzťahy emocionálnej inteligencie a copingových stratégií. Prejavila sa špecifickosť dvoch konštruktov EI. and This paper presents results regarding the relationship between emotional and social intelligence and coping strategies. Emotional intelligence was assessed as ability (Situational Test of Emotional Understanding) and as a personality trait (Trait EI questionnaire-Adolescent Short Form). Social intelligence, as a similar concept to EI, was examined by Tromsø Social Intelligence Scale (TSIS). Coping strategies were measured by using the Children’s Coping Strategies Checklist (Ayers, et al., 1999). The research sample consisted of 104 children at an early age of adolescence. Our results revealed some significant relationships between emotional intelligence and coping strategies. The distinctiveness of both constructs of EI was manifested.
Objectives. Although various mental health-re-lated consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic have been documented, there has been far less attention given to potential protective factors. Questions and hypotheses. In the present study, authors examined the role of three types of positive expectancies - optimism, hope, and self-efficacy - as predictors of well-being and anxiety. Furthermore, authors examined the role of coping strategies as a potential mediator between expectancies and criterion variables.Sample and settings. The present study was con-ducted during the COVID-19 outbreak in Slo-vakia after a national emergency was declared (N=1011). Additionally, longitudinal follow up was conducted after a national lockdown (N=391). Statistical analysis. Multi-model linear regres-sion (the Bayesian approach) and simple me-diation analysis (the Frequentist approach) were used to answer research questions. Results. In the main study with N=1011 partici-pants sampled after a national emergency was declared, the role of optimism in predicting anx-iety and well-being was corroborated. Moreo-ver, this finding was replicated after a national lockdown and the degree to which Coronavirus was considered dangerous served as a potential mediator. Besides optimism, self-efficacy nega-tively predicted anxiety, and subscales of hope predicted well-being. Additionally, the role of coping strategies as potential mediator was ex-amined. In follow up with N=391 respondents who decided to participate after the national lockdown, authors found an indirect effect of optimism on well-being and anxiety through dysfunctional coping. Limitations. The present study has some limita-tions that should be reflected upon. For exam-ple, convenience sampling was used. Moreover, interpretations related to causality should be avoided and the specificity of the effect in re-lation to pandemic situation should be further examined in future research. and Ciele. Menej pozornosti však bolo venovanej tomu, ktoré faktory tu môžu zohrávať protektívnu rolu.Otázky a hypotézy. Predkladaná štúdia sa zaobe-rá tým, akú rolu zohrávali tri druhy pozitívnych očakávaní (optimizmus, nádej a sebaúčinnosť) v rámci subjektívnej pohody a prežívanej úz-kosti počas nástupu prvej vlny pandémie CO-VID-19 na Slovensku. Súbor a metódy. Výskum bol realizovaný po tom, ako bol na Slovensku vyhlásený núdzový stav (N = 1011). Autori zisťovali sme subjektív-nu pohodu, aktuálne prežívanú úzkosť, tri druhy očakávaní (nádej, optimizmus a všeobecnú se-baúčinnosť) a to, do akej miery vnímali účastní-ci výskumu koronavírus ako nebezpečný. Druhý zber dát sa konal po celoštátnom lockdowne (N = 391). Tu sa autori zamerali na stratégie zvládania. Analýzy. V rámci analýzy dát boli využité dva postupy. Prvý bol reprezentovaný lineárnou re-gresiou pracujúcou s viacerými modelmi (Bay-esiánsky prístup), druhý mediačnou analýzou (Frekventistický prístup). Výsledky. V hlavnej časti (N = 1011), realizo-vanej krátko po vyhlásení núdzového stavu, sa ako dôležitý prediktor ukázal predovšetkým op-timizmus. Pozitívne predikoval subjektívnu po-hodu a negatívne prežívanú úzkosť. Zmienený vzťah bol sprostredkovaný tým, do akej miery považovali účastníci výskumu koronavírus za nebezpečný. Okrem toho, sebaúčinnosť nega-tívne predikovala prežívanú úzkosť a subškály nádeje predikovali subjektívnu pohodu. V nad-väzujúcom zbere dát (N = 391), uskutočnenom po prvom lockdowne, sa autori zamerali na rolu stratégii zvládania ako potenciálneho mediátora vo vzťahu medzi očakávaniami a kritérialnými premennými. Tu sa ako jeden z potenciálne dô-ležitých mechanizmov ukázali predovšetkým dysfunkčné stratégie zvládania stresu. Limity. Medzi limity možno zaradiť príležitost-ný výber výskumného súboru a to, že otázka, týkajúca sa toho, do akej miery tu šlo o vzťah špecifický pre pandémiu, zostáva aj naďalej otvorená. Okrem toho je nevyhnutné, aby výz-kumníci zostali pri vyjadrovaní sa k otázke kau-zality nanajvýš opatrní.
Cieľom výskumu bola analýza vzťahu medzi osobnostnými štýlmi a zvládaním záťaže. Skúmali sme copingové stratégie na troch hierarchicky usporiadaných úrovniach, ktoré vychádzajú z modelu zvládania R. S. Lazarusa a osobnostné štýly, ktoré vychádzajú z teórie PSI J. Kuhla. Analyzovali sme údaje 139 vysokoškolských študentov (55 mužov a 84 žien). Zistili sme, že najčastejšie využívanou copingovou stratégiou bola sociálna opora a príklonové stratégie zamerané na problém, najvyšší výskyt dosahovali optimistický, lojálny a ochotný osobnostný štýl. Hlavným cieľom výskumu bolo skúmanie vzťahu osobnostných štýlov a copingových stratégií. Osobnostné štýly, pre ktoré je charakteristická vysoká kladná emotívnosť (podieľa sa na tvorbe daného správania), korelujú s príklonovými (aktívnymi) copingovými stratégiami. Osobnostné štýly, pre ktoré sú charakteristické negatívne emócie (tlmia voľné procesy a správanie), korelujú predovšetkým s odklonovými (izolačnými, vyhýbajúcimi sa) stratégiami zvládania záťažových situácií. and Goal of the research was analysis of the relation between personality styles and coping strategies. We examined coping strategies on three hierarchical levels which refers to R.S. Lazarus’s model of coping with stress and personality styles, which derived from J. Kuhl´s PSI theory. We analyzed data of 139 university students (55 males and 84 females). We found out, that the most frequent coping strategy was social support and problem focused engagement strategies, highest appearance showed optimistic, loyal and willing personality style. Main purpose of this research was investigation of the relation among personality styles and coping strategies. Personality styles characterized by positive emotivity (participating on production of certain behavior) correlated with engagement (active) coping strategies. Personality styles characterized by negative emotions (dampening volition and behavior) correlated above all to disengagement (insulative, avoiding) coping strategies.
Latent toxoplasmosis has been previously found to cause behavioural and personality changes in humans, which are specific for each gender. Here we tested the stress hypothesis of these gender differences based on the assumption that latent toxoplasmosis causes long-term subliminal stress. In line with this hypothesis, the gender difference will appear specifically in situations with interpersonal context because in contrast to the typical individualistic coping style of men, women have a tendency to express elevated prosocial behaviour under stress. Altogether 295 biology students (29/191 females and 27/104 males infected by T. gondii) played a modified version of the Dictator Game and the Trust Game. As predicted, a gender difference in the effect of latent toxoplasmosis was found for the measure of reciprocal altruism in the Trust Game (p=0.016), but both genders appeared less generous when infected in the Dictator Game modified to minimize social connotation (p=0.048).
Objectives. The global pandemic of COVID-19 represents a major stressor in the lives of health-care professionals. The present study investigat-ed experienced stress and self-reported trauma symptoms among Slovak nurses during the fall of 2020, aiming to describe the extent of expe-rienced stress and trauma, and explain the vari-ation in trauma symptoms using psychosocial predictors. Sample and settings. An online form measuring traumatic stress symptoms, social support, cop-ing strategies, sleep quality and overall experi-enced stress was distributed among nurses and other healthcare professionals. 565 participants responded between November 12th and Decem-ber 20th 2020. Statistical analyses. Several multiple linear re-gressions with demographic and psychosocial predictors were performed to explain variation in traumatic symptoms.Results. The present data shows that 83% of medical nurses perceived increased stress and more than 62% experienced trauma symptoms. Traumatic symptoms could be partly explained based on the participants’ age, perceived social support, and used coping strategies. Higher so-cial support and strategies of acceptance and positive reframing were related to fewer trauma symptoms, while avoidance strategies, such as self-distraction, self-blame, venting, and behav-ioral disengagement to more trauma symptoms. In line with the present findings, professional psychosocial support is important to alleviate stress and prevent traumatization in healthcare workers after the COVID-19 crisis.Limitations. Data were collected via an online form, with a sample consisting of mostly nurses and women lacking data on other medical pro-fessions and men. Finally, traumatic symptoms develop slowly, therefore it is not possible to measure their recovery at this point. and Globálna pandémia ochorenia covid-19 pred-stavuje závažný stresor v životoch zdravot-níckych pracovníkov. Táto štúdia skúmala prežívaný stres a traumatické symptómy u slo-venských zdravotných sestier počas jesene 2020, s cieľom popísať ich rozsah a vysvetliť variáciu v symptómoch traumy na základe psy-chosociálnych prediktorov. Zber dát prebiehal prostredníctvom online formulára distribuova-ného zdravotným sestrám. Súčasťou formulára boli škály na meranie symptómov traumatické-ho stresu (TSQ-10), prežívanej sociálnej opory (MSPSS), copingových stratégií (Brief COPE), kvality spánku (PSQI) a celkového prežívaného stresu (PSS-10). Počas zhoršujúcej sa druhej vlny pandémie, medzi 12. novembrom a 20. decembrom 2020 na formulár odpovedalo 565 zdravotných sestier. Na vysvetlenie variácie traumatických symptómov bolo vytvorených niekoľko lineárnych regresných modelov ob-sahujúcich demografické a psychosociálne prediktory. Získané dáta ukázali, že 83 % zdra-votných sestier vnímalo v danom období, že sú pod zvýšenou mierou stresu, a viac ako 62 % sa prejavovalo traumatickými symptómami. Traumatické symptómy možno čiastočne vy-svetliť na základe veku participantov, vnímanej sociálnej opory a použitých stratégií zvládania. Vyššia sociálna podpora a stratégie prijatia a pozitívneho prerámcovania súviseli s men-ším počtom traumatických symptómov, zatiaľ čo vyhýbavé stratégie, ako sú sebarozptýlenie, sebaobviňovanie, ventilovanie a odangažované správanie, súviseli s väčším množstvom trau-matických symptómov. Limitmi výskumu sú zber prostredníctvom online formulára, vzorka zložená prevažne zo sestier ženského pohlavia, bez údajov o iných zdravotníckych profesiách a o mužoch. Napokon, traumatické symptómy sa vyvíjajú pomaly, preto v tomto bode nie je možné zmerať ich zotavenie. V súlade so súčas-nými zisteniami je dôležitá odborná psychoso-ciálna podpora na zmiernenie stresu a preven-ciu traumatizácie zdravotníckych pracovníkov po kríze covid-19.
Tinnitus je symptom, který se vyskytuje stále častěji kvůli všudypřítomnému hluku a zvyšujícímu se životnímu tempu. Poslední výzkumy poukazují na to, že v adaptaci na tinnitus a v jeho zpracování hrají ústřední roli psychologické a psychofyziologické mechanismy. Cílem této práce bylo popsat subjektivní prožívání tinnitu a způsoby jeho zvládání. Teoretická část se zabývá faktory a procesy ovlivňujícími patogenezi tinnitu jako je např. stres a habituace, autoplastickým obrazem onemocnění, psychosociálními důsledky tinnitu, zvládacími strategiemi a léčebnými metodami. Pro výzkum byl zvolen kvalitativní přístup. Jedná se o případovou studii skupiny. Celkem 25 pacientů se subjektivním tinnitem se zúčastnilo polostrukturovaného rozhovoru. Výsledky výzkumu popisují pasivní, efektivní a maladaptivní copingové strategie, podporují nálezy o významu vlivu stresu jak na příčinu, tak důsledky tinnitu a význam psychických problémů spojených s tinnitem. Výsledky také naznačují rozdíly v prožívání a zvládání tinnitu mezi muži a ženami. Tyto poznatky poukazují na vážnost psychických problémů spojených s tinnitem a potřebu komplexní léčby pro tyto pacienty., Tinnitus is a symptom, which occurs increasingly nowadays, mostly because of omnipresent noise and accelerating pace of live. The latest studies have shown that tinnitus adaptation and treatment depend especially on psychological and psychophysiological mechanisms. The aim of this study was to describe a subjective experience and ways of coping with tinnitus. Its theoretical part is focused on factors and processes influencing the pathogenesis of tinnitus, such as stress and habituation, illness representations, psychosocial consequences of tinnitus, coping strategies and tinnitus treatment. For the research of this study was chosen qualitative approach, a case study of a group. 25 patients with subjective tinnitus participated in semi-structured interview. The results describe passive, effective and maladaptive coping strategies. They confirm an impact of stress on cause and consequences of tinnitus, and the importance of psychological problems in tinnitus patients. The results also describe differences in illness representations and coping with tinnitus between men and women. Studie ukazuje souvislosti mezi frekvencí různých stylů zvládání (aktivní, znevážení, bezradnost), percipovanou četností každodenních problémů adolescentů a jejich přesvědčením o vlastním vlivu. Tyto vztahy byly zjišťovány zvlášť v několika sociálních kontextech (škola, rodiče, problémy se sebou samým, vrstevníci, opačné pohlaví, volný čas, volba povolání, představy o budoucnosti). Výzkumný soubor tvořilo celkem 563 respondentů (průměrný věk 15,6 let) z různých středních škol.
Výsledky ukázaly významný vztah mezi bezradností (pasivní coping) a nízkou percepcí vlivu, a to zejména pro problémy ve škole, s rodiči, s vrstevníky a pro oblast volby povolání. Aktivní přístup k řešení problémů a strategie znevažování problémové situace nesouvisí s přesvědčením o vlastním vlivu. Na druhou stranu, používání pasivních strategií a v některých sociálních kontextech (škola, vztahy s opačným pohlavím, volba povolání, představy o budoucnosti) i frekvence aktivního copingu souvisí s četností problémů. and The study is focused on relationships among frequencies of three coping styles (active, discounting, helplessness), perceived frequency of daily hassles, and perceived control beliefs. These relationships were analyzed separately for specific social context (school, parents, self, peer context, opposite sex, leisure time, future career, future expectations). A sample of 563 respondents (average age 15,6 years old) included students of different high schools.
As results revealed, the significant relationships between the passive coping strategy (helplessness) and a low level of perceived control beliefs were found in regard to school problems, problems with parents, problems with peers, and to problems regarding future career. The active coping and the coping strategy of discounting were not related to perceived control beliefs. On the other hand, the strategy of helplessness as well as a using of the active coping (in regard to school problems, problems with the opposite sex, problems regarding future career and future expectations) were related to the frequency of perceived daily hassles.
Výzkum je zaměřen na životní spokojenost a copingové strategie žen, které podstupují své první umělé oplodnění. Cílem bylo také vytipovat strategie, které se ukazují pro tuto situaci jako adaptivní nebo neadaptivní. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo celkem 139 žen, které vyplnily Dotazník životní spokojenosti (Fahrenberg, Myrtek, Schumacher, & Brahler, 2001) a Cope Inventory (Carver, Scheier, & Weintraub, 1989) v době začátku své léčby.
Z výsledků vyplývá, že ženy jsou ve srovnání s ostatními aspekty životní spokojenosti nejvíce spokojené se svým partnerstvím, bydlením a sexualitou, nejméně spokojené pak se svým trávením volného času a finanční situací. Z copingových strategií užívají tyto ženy nejčastěji strategie Plánování, Pozitivní reinterpretaci a Aktivní coping. Jako adaptivní strategie pro situaci neplodnosti a její léčby se ukázaly strategie Vyhledávání sociální opory a Pozitivní reinterpretace, naopak strategie Popření se ukázala jako neadaptivní.
Výzkum také naznačuje možné implikace do psychologického poradenství ženám, které se v této situaci nacházejí. and This research is focused on life satisfaction and coping strategies of women undergoing their first IVF treatment. The aim was also to find coping strategies which are adaptive or non-adaptive for this situation. The sample of 139 women filled in two questionnaires: Life satisfaction questionnaire (Fahrenberg, Myrtek, Schumacher, & Brahler, 2001) and COPE Inventory (Carver, Scheier, & Weintraub, 1989) at the beginning of their treatment.
Results show that women are most satisfied with their partnership, housing and sexuality in compared with other aspects of life satisfaction, and they are at least satisfied with their leisure time and financial state. From coping strategies they use the most often Planning, Positive reinterpretation and active coping. As adaptive coping strategies we found Seeking of social support and Positive reinterpretation, on the contrary we found coping strategy Denial not adaptive.
There are some useful implications forms this research for psychological counseling for women undergoing IVF treatment.
