Autor reaguje na publikaci archeologického výzkumu na tabulové hoře Úhošť z pera Zdeňka Smrže. Diskusí procházejí přírodní parametry, otázka opevnění a umělého pahorku. Příspěvek zařazuje Úhošť do kontextu dalších tabulových hor ve střední Evropě, které vydaly doklady svého využití od doby bronzové do středověku. and The author responds to the publication of an archaeological excavation conducted at the Úhošť mesa by Zdeněk Smrž. The article addresses the site’s natural parameters, the issue of fortifications and the man-made hilltop, and also places Úhošť in the context of other mesas in Central Europe that have produced evidence of their use from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages.
The article discusses the methodology employed in the excavation of the outer fortified area of the Early Medieval stronghold at Budeč. This methodology made it possible to establish in the stronghold’s western part, at the “Na kašně” location (field excavation in 1981–1986 and in 1989), the stratigraphic succession of anthropogenic activities, which helped to clarify the character, interconnection and dating of development forms of the outer fortifications and settlement in the studied part of the Budeč foregrounds. and Článek seznamuje s metodikou výzkumu vnějšího opevněného areálu raně středověkého hradiště Budeč, která umožnila v jeho západní části, v poloze Na kašně (terénní výzkum v letech 1981–86, 1989) stanovit stratigrafickou posloupnost antropogenních aktivit, a vedla tak k objasnění charakteru, provázanosti a datování vývojových forem vnějšího opevnění a osídlení ve zkoumané části budečského předhradí.
Tabulová hora hillfort plays a prominent role in the landscape of the South Moravia region. The excavation in 50’s brought basic information about the wall construction. At the beginning of the 21st century rumours about illegal metal detecting activities started to spread. According to this rumours a significant number of Bronze Age hoards as well as exclusive items were illegally excavated. This sparked a new wave of professional interest leading to a series of archaeological non-destructive activities on the site. The aim of this study is to present new results of defence system survey as well as geomagnetic survey of particular hillfort sections. The results are confronted with the data coming from the past excavations. A discussion on the role of hillforts in the Urnfield society follows.
Článek hodnotí výsledky systematických prospekcí s pomocí detektorů kovů z pomezí východních Čech a severozápadní Moravy za posledních patnáct let, doplněné o geofyzikální prospekci hradiště u Mařína. Dosavadní výzkum přinesl importy byzantského i karolínského původu (nákončí, průvlečka, hrot kopí) 7.–9. stol., nejpočetnější jsou lité ozdoby pozdně avarského typu z 8. století. Prostorová distribuce raně středověkých artefaktů mimo tradiční sídelní oblast vykazuje vazby na zaniklé komunikace, dochované v podobě úvozů. and The article evaluates the results of systematic metal detector surveys from the borderland between east Bohemia and northwest Moravia over the past fifteen years, supplemented with a geophysical survey of early medieval hillfort near Mařín (Svitavy district). The conducted surveys have produced imports of Byzantine and Carolingian origin (strap ends, loops, spear tip) from the 7th to 9th century, with cast ornaments of the Late Avar type from the 8th century occurring in the greatest numbers. The spatial distribution of early medieval artefacts outside the traditional settlement territory shows ties to defunct roads preserved in the form of sunken lanes.
The article addresses specific issues surrounding the Hallstatt period hillfort in Minice near Kralupy nad Vltavou, which was investigated in 1970–1989. Special attention is paid to the archaeological situation and finds, which are of supra-regional importance. The work offers new views of the reconstruction and origin of stone structures at the acropolis and presents additional unusual finds and situations related to the hillfort’s architecture. It also focuses on finds of material culture, documenting interregional long-distance contacts with the Carpathian Basin and the western Mediterranean, as well as on local production, especially pottery and bone industry. Attention is likewise paid to the function of the hillfort from the perspective of the regional settlement network and its role as one of the regional centres of power.
V tomto příspěvku prezentujeme okolnosti a kontext nálezu, výsledky mikroskopického pozorování, popis amuletu a výsledky materiálových analýz, včetně vytvoření modelových vizualizací struktury olověné tabulky, překlad a komentář latinského textu a jeho zasazení do širšího kontextu analogických nálezů z Evropy. Prováděné analýzy zároveň otevírají problematiku nedestruktivního zkoumání artefaktů výjimečných svým provedením. Obvyklé postupy rozvinutí olověného plechu jsou invazivní a neumožňují zachovat autenticitu předmětu v jeho původní složené podobě. and A lead amulet with an engraved Latin inscription was discovered in 2014 during regular investigations of the ploughed land and eroded wooded hillsides of the multicultural hillfort at the Na Dřevíči site (Rakovník district). Without parallels thus far in the Bohemian environment, the artefact was identified on the basis of comparisons with finds of lead tablets with Latin texts from German and Scandinavian sites of the 11th–13th century, which were usually unfolded after their discovery for the purpose of reading. This article presents the circumstances and context of the find, the results of microscopic observations, the description of the amulet and the results of material analyses, including the creation of model visualisations of the structure of the lead tablet, a translation and commentary of the Latin text and its placement into the broader context of parallel finds from Europe. The conducted analyses also raise the issue of the non-destructive investigation of singular finds. The usual methods for unfolding the lead sheet are invasive and do not permit the preservation of the authenticity of the artefact in its original folded form.
