In this paper, I aim to do three things. First, I introduce the distinction between the Uniqueness Thesis (U) and what I call the Conditional Uniqueness Thesis (U*). Second, I argue that despite their official advertisements, some prominent uniquers effectively defend U* rather than U. Third, some influential considerations that have been raised by the opponents of U misfire if they are interpreted as against U*. The moral is that an appreciation of the distinction between U and U* helps to clarify the contours of the uniqueness debate and to avoid a good deal of talking past each other.
Climate changes expected in future would influence the inflow into a multipurpose reservoir. Will be a reservoir able to supply a real demand for water during those climate conditions? This ability was calculated by rainfall-runoff balance model WBMOD that works with a monthly time step. The input data series of precipitation and air temperature and the observed reservoir outflows were used to express the expected changes of the total runoff and the required reservoir capacity. Input data were modified every month according to the last climate scenarios CCCM2000 and GISS1998 estimated for the Vihorlat reservoir catchment. Failures in the required water supply in volume and time for these changed climate conditions were evaluated. Climate scenarios of temperature and precipitation changes for the Laborec catchment above gauging station Laborec-Humenné, for time period 1971-1998 were used. and Zmena klímy očakávaná v budúcnosti by mohla ovplyvniť aj prítok do vodnej nádrže. Bude za takýchto klimatických podmienok nádrž schopná zabezpečiť reálne požiadavky na vodu, aké boli namerané za jej doterajšej prevádzky? Na výpočet týchto zmien bol použitý zrážkovo-odtokový bilančný model WBMOD pracujúci v mesačnom kroku. Zmeny celkového odtoku z povodia a požadovaného objemu nádrže na zabezpečenie reálneho odberu boli vyčíslené za pomoci vstupných údajov o zrážkach a teplotách v povodí Laborca nad profilom Humenné a za pomoci meraných odberov z vodnej nádrže Vihorlat (Zemplínska Šírava) za obdobie 1971-1998. Vstupné údaje boli modifikované podľa najnovších klimatických scenárov CCCM2000 a GISS1998 prepočítaných pre povodie Laborec-Humenné. Na záver boli vyčíslené nedodávky požadovaného množstva vody v objeme a čase za zmenených klimatických podmienok.

It has been argued that consciousness is not possible without peripheral self-consciousness; i.e., without an implicit awareness of oneself as the subject of one’s mental state. My purpose is to undermine this view. I contend that a subject’s first-personal access to her conscious mental states and an awareness of them as hers, along with a particular approach to consciousness according to which a subject cannot be unconsciously conscious of things motivate the view that consciousness is not possible without self-consciousness. In order to undermine this view I argue that not all conscious states are accompanied by a sense of mineness. I also reject the reasons for endorsing an approach to consciousness according to which a subject cannot be unconsciously conscious of things. Then I critically examine Kriegel’s arguments for the dependence of consciousness on self-consciousness based on the first-personal access a subject has to her conscious mental states and discuss the difficulties involved., To bylo argumentoval, že vědomí není možné bez periferního self-vědomí; tj. bez implicitní informovanosti o sobě jako o předmětu duševního stavu. The paper presents the results of the study of the sediments deposition process in a settling basin by using a k-ε turbulence model. The results obtained are than compared with the results obtained by using 1 and 2 D mathematical models and field measurements. In the first step, the settling basin is designed based on the formulae recommended by classical approach. The transition zone at the entrance of settling basin is then adjusted to satisfy more uniform flow at the beginning of the active zone. The flow velocity variation and bed shear stress distribution over the cross section area are furthermore analyzed and questions suggesting further development of mathematical models are identified. For the second step, a schematized settling basin is then modelled in three-dimensional laterally confined model for the purpose of dealing with turbulences that potentially bring more sediment to the side and to the end of settling basin. Finally, recommendations for the design of settling basin are given by analyzing the results obtained by both mathematical and empirical methods. By comparison of the results obtained and field measurements made in Indonesia, useful design recommendations are derived. and Príspevok obsahuje výsledky štúdia sedimentačného procesu v usadzovacej nádrži s využitím modelu turbulencie k-ε. Takto získané výsledky sú porovnané s tými, ktoré boli získané pomocou jedno- a dvojdimenzionálneho modelu a s terénnymi meraniami. Najskôr bol sedimentačný bazén navrhnutý pomocou klasických vzorcov. Prechodová zóna a vstup do usadzovacieho bazénu bol potom upravený tak, aby zabezpečil relatívne homogénne prúdenie na začiatku aktívnej zóny. Boli analyzované zmeny rýchlosti prúdenia a rozdelenie trecích napätí na dne v priečnych rezoch koryta a boli identifikované problémy, ktoré by umožnili ďalší vývoj matematických modelov tohto javu. V ďalšom kroku bol modelovaný schematizovaný usadzovací bazén ako trojrozmerný, na oboch stranách ohraničený model, aby sa dalo manipulovať s turbulenciou, ktorá by mohla potenciálne dopraviť viac sedimentov na strany a na koniec sedimentačnej nádrže. Nakoniec uvádzame odporúčania pre návrh sedimentačných nádrží, vychádzajúc z výsledkov využitia matematických aj emprických metód. Porovnaním týchto výsledkov s výsledkami terénnych meraní v Indonézii boli navrhnuté užitočné odporúčania.
The article describes a new methodology of using genetic algorithms to assemble a natural time series of discharge recession, from which a master recession curve can be interpreted both for streams and for springs. Presented approach can avoid obstacles such as limited time-series datasets, incomplete recessions or too many recessionary segments in many recession series, different time intervals of observations (daily or weekly frequencies). Short time–series intervals, imprecise or mistaken measurements and different types of datasets (averaged or directly measured data) are taken into account as well. Even rough measurements of discharges with inaccurate sensing range can be analysed, if sufficiently long observation is available. Complicated hydrograph shapes in the case of e.g. karstic springs (often caused by combination of laminar and turbulent discharge sub-regimes due to karst network settings) can be processed as well. Subsequent construction of master recession curve is much easier an offers better conditions for its interpretation. Presented algorithm was already implemented to a programme solution, completed on the user form. and Článok opisuje novú metodiku využitia genetických algoritmov pre kompozíciu úplných a prirodzených časových radov poklesu prietokov na povrchových tokoch alebo výdatností prameňov v čase bez dopĺňania hydrologických systémov/infiltračných oblastí, ktoré možno následne interpretovať výtokovou čiarou. Prezentovaná metodika umožňuje prekonanie častých problémov, akými sú krátke alebo nekompletné časové rady, neúplne zaznamenané výtokové procesy alebo naopak príliš mnoho segmentov v množstve čiastkových poklesových radov, rozdielne (denné alebo týždenné) intervaly pozorovaní, nepresné alebo chybné merania, alebo rozdielne typy údajov (priemerné alebo priamo merané hodnoty). Ak sú k dispozícii pozorovania z dostatočne dlhého časového intervalu, metóda umožňuje aj spracovanie pozorovaní s vysokou mierou nepresnosti odčítania hodnôt prietokov alebo výdatností. Komplikované tvary hydrogramov, aké sú časté najmä v prípadoch krasových prameňov (často spôsobované kombináciou účinku laminárnych a turbulentných subrežimov v dôsledku zložitej štruktúry krasových obehových ciest) taktiež nepredstavujú problém pri automatizovanom skladaní výtokových časových radov. Následné zostavenie výtokových čiar je potom oveľa jednoduchšie a poskytuje lepšie podmienky pri ich interpretácii. Prezentovaný algoritmus bol už realizovaný v rámci programového riešenia, zostaveného do užívateľskej podoby, takže opísanú metódu možno aplikovať aj bez znalostí programovania.
Following Carnap’s Principle of Subject Matter, Pavel Tichý proposed a methodological principle I call the ''Denotational Principle of Aboutness''. It says that expressions are about their denotata. Denotata are modelled as possible world intensions or (common) extensions. Nearly the same principle was recently defended by Marie Duží and Pavel Materna under the name the ''Parmenides Principle''. However, Duží and Materna did not react to Tichý’s late proposal which I call the ''Constructional Principle of Aboutness''. It says that the subject matter of expressions consists not in their denotata but in their meanings. The meanings are explicated by Tichý, and also by Duží and Materna, as so-called constructions; constructions are complex entities akin to algorithms, they construct intensions or extensions. In this paper, I argue in favour of the Constructional Principle of Aboutness. I show that there are not only single arguments, but the whole net of methodological principles which support it. This is why the topic largely transcends the debate among Tichý’s followers., Pavel Tichý navrhl podle Carnapova principu předmětové záležitosti metodický princip, který nazývám ,,Denotační princip onessness''. This article deals with numerical modelling of contaminant transport in a locality near Bzenec. From the 1970s to the 1990s, this locality was subjected to groundwater contamination by chlorohydrocarbons (PCE, TCE, DCE). The locality is known for its drinking water supplies, which serve for over 100 000 people. Since 1992 remediation of the locality has been in progress, with several breaks due to funding problems. Numerical modelling was used as a method for assessing the efficiency of remediation and for predicting the contaminant transport until the end of 2006. In order to model contaminant transport, a 3D groundwater flow model was first created, calibrated and verified in steady state. Then the transport model was built to simulate contaminant transport. The modelling of contaminant transport was solved by using several scenarios where the input values for the dispersion, sorption and decay parameters were verified using measured values of contaminant concentration in the region of interest. and Článek se zabývá numerickým modelováním šíření znečištění v blízkosti Bzence. V průběhu 70. až 90. let minulého století došlo v této lokalitě ke kontaminaci podzemní vody chlorovanými uhlovodíky (PCE, TCE, DCE). Tato lokalita je významným zdrojem pitné vody pro více než 100 000 obyvatel. Od roku 1992 probíhájí v lokalitě sanační práce, které byly z finančních důvodů několikrát přerušeny. Pro ověření účinnosti sanačních prací a pro predikci šíření znečištění do konce roku 2006 byla využita metoda numerického modelování. Aby bylo možné simulovat proces šíření znečištění, byl nejprve sestaven, zkalibrován a verifikován třírozměrný model proudění podzemní vody pro ustálený stav. Potom byl vytvořen transportní model. Transport kontaminantu byl modelován v několika scénářích, lišících se hodnotami parametrů disperze, sorpce a rozpadové konstanty. Hodnoty těchto parametrů byly verifikovány pomocí měřených koncentrací znečišťujících látek v oblasti.
