The article examines ideological and institutional role of the “greening” policy in the Soviet urban planning practice of 1920-1930s. Relying on the example of the socialist city of Uralmash in Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk) the author traces how the idea of the “green city” affected the development of the urban settlement in terms of its functional mechanism and symbolic transformation. By analyzing the logic of the Uralmash “green” policy and its main narratives he argues that successful improvement of the post-Soviet green zones depends not so much on the new urban city-planning initiatives as on the new symbols and meanings that could give a clear vision of these spaces in the current social and cultural context.
This paper provides an overview of developments affecting Slovenian social housing after the country’s transition to a market economy. It analyses the Slovenian institutional framework, its functioning and critically evaluates its sustainability. The economic and social impacts of the global financial crisis saw the sector face strong challenges and revealed its weaknesses. A new strategic document was adopted in 2015 to respond to the situation. Although this new document offers a transition to the more sustainable and better provision of social housing in practice, it is still too early for optimism since it would not be the first time in Slovenia that a strategic document has primarily remained only on the declaratory level.
The revival of the UN Security Council’s regulatory powers after the end of the Cold War as well as new challenges to international peace and security have led to the development and diversification of UN operational tools. In the absence of United Nations’ own material capacities to undertake necessary military action, due to the non-conclusion of agreements provided for in Article 43 of the UN Charter by which UN Member States would commit to provide the necessary force and other assistance to the Security Council upon its call, the latter developed other means. Today, there co-exist two mandated operations by the Security Council vested with the power to use force, each however within a different scope, limits and objective: UN-led “Blue Helmets” and UN-authorized military operations. This functional rapprochement causes nevertheless a great confusion, both in practice and recently in the judicial sphere. Hence, the clarification of the legal regime of each is essential. While the UN-led Blue Helmets vested with the limited power to use force represent the new generation of peacekeeping operations, the UN-authorized operations constitute a decentralized execution of the Council’s enforcement measure. In the latter case the Security Council turns to UN Member States or regional organizations and delegates them its exclusive power to use force under Article 42 of the UN Charter to execute it under set conditions. The limitation of the use of force by the UN-led operation to the strict defence of its civilian mandate does not exempt it from the regime of coercion established under Chapter VII of the UN Charter either. This raises a question of the legal status of this UN-led operation and whether possibly such tool approaches the original concept of UN enforcement forces laid down in Article 43. Analysis of the converging and diverging elements of both operations shows the complexity of this operational domain, the clarification of which is proposed in this article via a legal perspective.
The article deals with the regulation of the use of Czech, German and classical languages in the administrative, school and Church spheres as it appears in the decrees published during Joseph II’s reign for the lands of the Bohemian crown. The author attempts to reconstruct the emperor’s vision of the usage of the different languages in the Czech lands, find the reasoning behind it, and identify the methods of this regulation. Egypt is considered to be one of the few countries in which Arab culture flourished among the Jews, in both the popular and the canonical fields. Some of Jews, such as Yacqūb Ṣanūc (James Sanua) (1839-1912), Togo Mizraḥī (1901-1987), and Laylā Murād (1918-1995), rose to prominence. However, on the whole, Jewish involvement was relatively limited in comparison to Iraq, probably because Arabic had low status among Egyptian Jews. A Jew as “a carbon copy of ibn al-balad” was never a desired option for most of the Egyptian-Jewish writers, artists, and intellectuals. Due to the peculiar demographic structure of Egyptian Jewry, the dreams of its members were much more infused with the spirit of Alexandrian cosmopolitanism, which was the product of a limited period and singular history – that of the crumbling Ottoman Empire.
The 48-hour "Aladin" forecast model can predict significant meteorological quantities in a middle scale area. Neural networks could try to replace some statistical techniques designed to adapt a global meteorological numerical forecast model for local conditions, described with real data surface observations. They succeed commonly a cut above problem solutions with a predefined testing data set, which provides bearing inputs for a trained model. Time-series predictions of the very complex and dynamic weather system are sophisticated and not any time faithful using simple neural network models entered only some few variables of their own next-time step estimations. Predicted values of a global meteorological forecast might instead enter a neural network locally trained model, for refine it. Differential polynomial neural network is a new neural network type developed by the author; it constructs and substitutes for an unknown general sum partial differential equation of a system description, with a total sum of fractional polynomial derivative terms. This type of non-linear regression is based on trained generalized data relations, decomposed into many partial derivative specifications. The characteristics of composite differential equation solutions of this indirect type of a function description can facilitate a much greater variety of model forms than is allowed using standard soft-computing methods. This adjective derivative model type is supposed to be able to solve much more complex problems than is usual using standard neural network techniques.
Cíl studie: Výsledek každé analýzy DNA je do značné míry závislý na typu biologického materiálu použitého pro extrakci nukleových kyselin. Cílem naší studie je porovnat vlastnosti DNA extraktů získaných dvěma různými izolačními postupy z buněk bukální sliznice, močového sedimentu, nehtů, vlasových kořínků a periferních krevních buněk. Materiál a metody: Biologické vzorky byly získány od 24 dobrovolníků s mediánem věku 31 let (25–54 let). Izolace DNA byla provedena fenol-chloroformovou extrakcí a pomocí separačních mikrokolonek (Qiagen). Eluční objem byl v obou případech 50 μl. Extrakty byly charakterizovány spektrofotometricky, fluorimetricky, elektroforeticky a z hlediska účinnosti následné PCR amplifikace. Výsledky: Nejvyšší koncentrace DNA obsahovaly extrakty z buněk periferní krve a bukální sliznice; nejnižší koncentrace DNA byly izolovány z vlasových kořínků. Všechny typy extraktů měly uspokojivou čistotu (mediány v rozmezí 1,7–1,9). Podíl nefragmentované DNA ve vzorcích získaných mikrokolonkovou metodou byl téměř dvojnásobný v porovnání s fenolovou extrakcí. Procentuální zastoupení nefragmentovaných molekul klesal podle biologického zdroje v následující řadě: krev (73,3 %) > bukální sliznice (63,5 %) > močový sediment (31,3 %) > nehty (25,3 %) > vlasy (20,4 %). Amplifikační účinnost u extraktů z periferní krve, bukálního stěru a močového sedimentu byla vyšší než u extraktů z nehtů a vlasů. Závěr: Všechny analyzované extrakty pocházející z krevních buněk, bukální sliznice, močového sedimentu, nehtů a vlasů poskytly dostatek DNA molekul k provedení molekulárně biologických vyšetření. Nejvhodnějšími materiály byly krevní buňky a buňky bukální sliznice. Z nich připravené extrakty měly nejvyšší koncentraci a čistotu DNA bez ohledu na použitou izolační metodu, nejnižší podíl degradované DNA a nejvyšší účinnost amplifikace krátkých i dlouhých amplikonů., Objective: Results of DNA testing depend in many cases on the type of biological material used for extraction of nucleic acids. The aim of the study is to compare properties of DNA extracts prepared using two different isolation procedures from buccal cells, urine sediment, nails, hair roots, and peripheral blood cells. Material and Methods: Biological material was collected from 24 volunteers at median age of 31 years (range 25–54 years). Phenol–chloroform extraction and spin microcolumn extraction method (Qiagen) were used for DNA isolation. In both the procedures, the elution volume was 50 μl. The extracts were characterized optically (UV spectrophotometric and fluorimetric analyses), electrophoretically, and by PCR amplification efficiency. Results: The highest DNA concentrations were found in extracts from peripheral blood and buccal cells; the lowest DNA concentrations were in hair extracts. All types of the extracts had acceptable purity (medians 1.7–1.9). The content of nonfragmented DNA molecules in the microcolumns extracts was almost twofold higher in comparison to the phenol ones. The percentages of non-fragmented DNA decreased as follows: blood (73.3 %) > buccal cells (63.5 %) > urine sediment (31.3 %) > nails (25.3 %) > hair roots (20.4 %). The amplification efficiency in the peripheral blood, buccal swab, and urine extracts was significantly higher than in the nail and hair extracts. Conclusion: All analyzed DNA extracts received from blood, buccal cells, urine sediment, nails, and hair roots provided a sufficient number of integral DNA molecules for following DNA testing. In the wake of the national and political conflict in the Middle East, Arab-Jewish culture has undergone a process of marginalization and negligence, as well as a gradual descent into utter oblivion, owing to both Arab-Musim and Hebrew-Jewish-Zionist national and culural systems. Both sides, each with its own form of limited reasoning and particularistic considerations, have refused to accept the legitimacy of Arab-Jewish hybridism highlighting instead "pure" nationally, culturally, and religiously exclusive identities. The article explores the gradual demise of Arab-Jewish cultural hybridism, which, from a historical point of view, coexisted with Arab-Muslim and Arab-Christian hybridisms during some periods. Following a short era in the twentieth century during which Arab-Jewish culture flourished, especially in Egypt and Iraq, we are currently witnessing the demise of that culture. Consequently, Israeli-Arab Jews, or those seen as their offspring, currently have, or will have in the near future, three man cultural options. The first - the revival of active Jewish involvement in Arab canonical culture - is probably impossible. The second option is involvement in popular Israeli culture; this option is characterized by a strong longing for legitimacy - Jewish musicians and singers of Arab origin have accomplished a great deal in this field. The third option is participation in the activities of the canonical Hebrew culture.
The author examines the clientele of the Bratislava booksellers Anton Löwe and Philip Ulrich Mahler in the context of the Hungarian book trade from 1770 to 1800. By analysing the extant correspondence of Michal Institoris Mošovský, a protestant pastor in Bratislava, she was able to partially identify one segment of their customer base - protestant clergymen. For many years these members of the petty intelligentsia purchased from the Bratislava booksellers, in particular imported works by the German pietists and Enlightenment theologians. This study examines how South Africans construct and negotiate racial identities in written commentaries via a forum of the Mail@Guardian website Thought Leader in response to a blog by Ndumiso Ngcobo entitled “I’m a coconut and I am proud of it – say it with me.” Ngcobo’s ironic opinion piece, written in 2008, which plays with the label “coconut” (frequently employed in South Africa among “black” people in reference to another “black” person who seemingly behaves “white”), triggered 163 responses from individual readers. An essential point made by Ngcobo is that perceptions and attitudes around “whiteness” and “blackness,” or what can be considered “white” or “black” in racial terms, vary greatly, depending on circumstances and perspective. However, the author’s irreverent and ironic style is misunderstood and misinterpreted by many of the comment writers. Relying partially on the methodological framework of Critical Discourse Analysis, I analyze the commentary texts and interpret the categories people use in their discursive constructions of race and identity by examining their stylistic choices and content markers and focusing on sociolinguistic and cultural issues. It is argued that the analyzed comments are representative not only of the pervasiveness of “rigid” race thinking but also of how intra-racial boundaries are constructed in the post-apartheid state.
The sequence diversity in the mitochondrial cytochrome-c oxidase I (COI) gene was evaluated as a tool for resolving differences among species of European adelgids collected from several localities across the Czech Republic. Members of 7 genera and 16 species were examined, and as outgroups, two species of Phylloxeridae were used. Sequence divergences within species were on average less than 0.15%, whereas divergences between species ranged from 0.0 to 4.12% for congeneric and to 13.24% for intergeneric comparisons. It is concluded that DNA barcoding of Adelgidae is a powerful tool for identifying genera, but at the species level it works only in those cases where there are no species complexes. Nevertheless, it can be used as a complement to traditional, morphological taxonomy.
A hybrid approach to elephant trunk technique for treatment of thoracic aortic aneurysms combines a conventional surgical and endovascular therapy. Compared to surgery alone, there is a presumption that mortality and morbidity is reduced. We present a case report of a 42-year-old man with a giant aneurysm of the entire thoracic aorta, significant aortic and tricuspid regurgitation and ventricular septum defect. This study examines the possibilities and limitations of centralizing reforms within the western part of the Habsburg monarchy, as illustrated by the problematic issue of ennoblement in the Czech lands. The administrative reforms of 1749 resulted in the administrative union of both state entities in a single whole of (all) so-called Hereditary Lands. They also led to the closure of separate offices at court representing the Czech and Austrian lands, replacing them with a single Directorium in publicis et cameralibus, which took over the ennoblement programme hitherto operated by those two offices. Despite the apparently centralizing tendency of the reforms, this did not extend to any unification of entitlements to ennoblement, which continued to be based on particular ranks and titles specific to either the Kingdom of Bohemia or the Archduchy of Austria. It was not until 1752 that, on the urging of Maria Theresa herself, a unified, legally binding system for dispensing preferment and privilege, including a unified scale of aristocratic titles for all the Hereditary Lands, was introduced. In practice, ennoblement rights in the two state entities remained differentiated as to specific titles up until the early 19th century, when the two systems were superseded by a new Austrian Imperial ranking. The concept of "Exclusivism" is considered to represent one of the most characteristic features of International Nuclear Law. This concept is reflected by regulating matters of uses of nuclear energy and ionising radiation exclusively by distinct principles, that govern legal relations arising in these matters. The concept of "Exclusivism" has been widely reflected in the provisions of international conventions, which have been adopted since the 1960s. This article aims to revisit this concept, taking the most recent developments in international and European law into regard. From the 1780s on, the court of the Princes of Schwarzenberg generally maintained four or five personal doctors. These privileged positions were frequently held by individuals who also practised as municipal or county physicians. In their castles in Bohemia the Schwarzenbergs also employed surgeons and apothecaries, and in line with the professionalization of medical care during the Enlightenment they attached great importance to the training of health workers. In the first three decades of the 19th century health care in the context of the Schwarzenberg primogeniture became even more specialized and the number of medical staff on the various Schwarzenberg estates increased. In addition to their own physicians, the Schwarzenbergs also entrusted their health needs to eminent medical experts drawn primarily from the Habsburg court and the University of Vienna and later, from the 1830s on, to many doctors working in the Czech Lands. This study considers the relationship between the high nobility as representatives of social elites on the one hand and the Enlightenment medicalization of society with its professionalization of health care on the other. It maps the structure of medical care within one aristocratic family and their estates and its transformation over a fifty‐year period. Úvod: U 60 % nemocných s kolorektálním karcinomem jsou diagnostikovány jaterní metastázy (JMKRK), ať už v době stanovení diagnózy, nebo v průběhu léčby. Chirurgická léčba je jedinou potenciálně kurabilní metodou s pětiletým přežíváním dosahujícím cca 50 %. Jaterní resekci však podstoupí méně než 20 % pacientů s JMKRK. Společnou snahou onkologů a chirurgů je navýšit počet resekovaných pacientů. Jedním z postupů, jak navýšit resekabilitu JMKRK, je „liver first approach“ (LFA). Autoři prezentují vlastní předběžné výsledky této metody. Metody: Do multicentrického grantu IGA MZ NT 13660 – Hodnocení kvality multimodální péče u nemocných s jaterními metastázami kolorektálního karcinomu – bylo od září 2012 do ledna 2015 zařazeno v ÚVN 102 pacientů. LFA jsme použili u 12 pacientů (12 %). Po příznivé léčebné odpovědi neoadjuvantní systémové léčby jsme pacienty indikovali k resekci jater. U 11 pacientů se jednalo o mnohočetné (>4 meta) bilobární postižení. V jednom případě se jednalo o objemnou solitární metastázu pravého jaterního laloku. Primární tumor byl u 9 nemocných v rektu, u 3 v oblasti rektosigmatu, 3 pacienti měli derivační kolostomii, ostatní byli bez poruchy pasáže. Výsledky: U 11 pacientů jsme provedli R0 resekci jaterních metastáz, 3x jsme indikovali dvoufázovou hepatektomii s portální embolizací (PVE), 1x jsme pro progresi po PVE ustoupili od 2. fáze). Velkou resekci jsme provedli 7x, neanatomickou resekci včetně RFA 11x (6x v kombinaci s velkou resekcí). Perioperační mortalita byla nulová, morbidita 33 % (Dindo-Clavien >2). 10 pacientů absolvovalo adjuvantní chemoterapii, 7 z nich včetně radioterapie malé pánve pro lokálně pokročilý tumor rekta. U 7 pacientů (58 %) jsme doplnili resekci primárního tumoru. V současné době zemřeli na progresi onemocnění 2 pacienti (17 %), progresi onemocnění jsme zaznamenali u 6 pacientů (50 %). Závěr: LFA považujeme za vhodný především u pacientů s generalizovaným tumorem rekta, kdy lze po resekci jater adjuvantní systémovou léčbu kombinovat s radioterapií malé pánve. Otázkou zůstává načasování operace primárního tumoru, kdy je nutné vyloučit recidivu jaterních metastáz, která se objevuje u více než 50 % pacientů. Profit LFA musí být prokázán randomizovanými studiemi., Introduction: Liver metastases are diagnosed in 60% of patients with colorectal cancer, both at the time of diagnosis or later in the course of their management. Surgical treatment is the sole potentially curable method with 5–year overall survival of approximately 50%. However, only less than 20% of patients underwent liver resection. A joint effort of medical oncologists and surgeons is to increase the numbers of resected patients. The “liver first approach” (LFA) is one of approaches aimed at increasing resecability. The authors present their preliminary results using this method. Methods: 102 patients were included in the multicentre study supported by the grant IGA NT 13660 − Evaluation of quality of multimodal treatment for patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases – conducted at the Central Military Hospital between September 2012 and January 2015. We used LFA in 12 patients (12%). Patients were indicated for liver resection based on good response to neoadjuvant systemic therapy. Multiple bilobar liver involvement (>4 metastases) was present in 11 cases and one large solitary metastasis in the right liver lobe in one case. The primary tumor was located in the rectum in 9 patients, in the rectosigmoid in 3 patients; 3 patients had a colostomy. Others showed no signs of bowel obstruction. Results: We have performed R0 resections in 11 cases, and two-stage hepatectomy with portal vein embolisation was indicated 3 times (in one case we did not finish the second stage due to quick progression after PVE). We performed major resections 7 times, along with sever extraanatomic resections, incl. 11 RFA (6 times in combination with major resections). Perioperative mortality was 0%, morbidity 33% (Dindo-Clavien >2). Ten patients underwent adjuvant chemotherapy, in 7 cases including radiotherapy of the small pelvis due to a local advanced primary tumor. Resection of the primary tumor was done in 7 patients (58%). Two patients died recently because of disease progression (17%); progression was observed in 6 patients (50%). Conclusion: We deem the LFA suitable especially for patients with metastatic rectal tumors where adjuvant systemic therapy can be combined with radiotherapy. The timing of the resection of the primary tumor still remains a question: it is necessary to rule out potential recurrence of liver metastases, which affected more than 50% of the patients. This paper uses a corpus of 14 hours of recorded interactions to analyze the “normative” and “strategic” honorifics usage of speakers of Korean as a second language. I define “normative” honorifics as usage that reflects recognized “power”, “distance” and “formality” factors. “Strategic” honorifics usage breaks from these norms, is pragmatically “marked” and is motivated by interactional goals. Previous studies into the honorifics usage of speakers of Korean as a second language focus on analysis of “errors” judged against prescriptive norms. However, the current paper adopts an interactional socio-pragmatic perspective and looks at the ideology and specific intentions that underlie second language usage. According to my data, in comparison with native interaction, second language speaker discourse displays less variation according to normative factors but may show more marked strategic alterations. Regarding normative usage, speakers prefer to establish equal relationships and minimize “power” differences. As for strategic use, speakers may alternate honorific levels according to the sensitivity of the situation or the illocutionary force of particular utterances. I explain these differences with reference to conflicting ideologies as to language usage between Korean and “Western” cultures, prevalent during the interview process. I conclude the paper by discussing the implications for Korean applied linguistics.
Historically, the main focus of the study of housing in advanced economies has been on houses that meet the accommodation needs of households: houses as the main residence of families. In recent decades there has been the growth in the numbers of houses used for purposes other than as a main residence, for example in the forms of the recent global spread of Airbnb and of foreign engagement in housing as an investment tool; alongside a set of ‘for housing’ houses (FHH) another, overlapping, set of ‘not for housing’ houses (NFHH) is emerging. The present paper begins by identifying four types of NFHH, and considers the significance of their growth. It argues that while the NFHH sector is relatively small it has large impacts, and these are such that they challenge housing researchers and policy makers to develop additional ways of looking at housing systems.
The cuticular structure of juveniles of several oribatids of different families with wrinkled cuticles were compared: Hermannia gibba, Tectocepheus velatus, Scutovertex minutus, Achipteria coleoptrata and Eupelops occultus. Both the surface and internal structures of the "plissée" were studied. Light microscopy revealed several patterns in mites studied with Masson's triple stain and these results were supported by TEM. Although the "plissée" looks similar at the body surface, the structure and ultrastructure differ among groups. Some types of wrinkling is supported by small muscles, probably for changing body shape. Differences in the structure of the cuticle of the prosoma and opisthosoma were observed. The differences in the wrinkling in the cuticle in diferent lines is associated with change in the body shape in response to different moisture conditions.
This article examines the administration of rescue operations to save people from drowning and the distribution of rewards to rescuers in Bohemia during the 1780s and 1790s. Based on documented interrogations and official records, the article looks at the investigatory process, the conditions rescuers had to fulfil in order to apply for a reward from the Bohemian Gubernium, and the role of other actors in this process, such as witnesses and doctors. The study departs from the concept of biopolitics developed by French philosopher Michel Foucault and shows how the state authorities tried to foster mutual solidarity among town dwellers. While Enlightenment thinkers continued to stress the role of "love for human beings" (Menschenliebe), i.e. universal interpersonal solidarity, the elites held the view that the biggest motivation for anyone to save a person from drowning was monetary reward. The aim of the enlighteners, however, was to encourage people to embrace the ideal of "Menschenliebe" and to fully identify with it - hence their emphasis on cases of selfless acts, especially in newspapers and popular literature. Sdělení je stručnou informací o akcích na podporu zdraví, které se konaly v říjnu 2013 v Liberci pod záštitou programu Zdravý Liberecký kraj, z iniciativy pracovní skupiny pro realizaci Programu dlouhodobého zlepšování zdravotního stavu obyvatel Libereckého kraje. Program týdne podpory zdraví se věnoval správné péči o chrup, škodlivosti kouření a jeho odvykání, pohybových aktivit a jejich individuální indikaci pro konkrétní zájemce, konzultaci otázek týkajících se zdravého životního stylu. Vše bylo doplněno informacemi o zdravém stravování a orientačním vyšetřením fyzické kondice nebo získáním zdravotně výchovných materiálů. Snahou pořadatelů bylo občanům připomenout význam a možnosti opomíjené prevence a zdůraznit zodpovědnost každého jednotlivce za své zdraví., The article is a short information on health promotion campaigns held in October 2013 in the regional city Liberec (Czech Republic) under the auspices of Healthy Region Liberec. The campaigns were initiated by the working group for realization of the "Programme of long-term improving of health of people in the Liberec region". The "Week of health promotion" brought to light proper dental care, knowledge on tobacco hazards and quitting the habit, advised of individual physical activity, offered consultations on healthy lifestyle and proposals of healthy eating and a short examination of physical fitness. Visitors received some health education materials. Vstupní otázkou textu je, existuje-li specificky romská kriminalita. Ve své studii, která je primárně odpovědí na uvedenou otázku, autor danou problematiku nahlíží programově v perspektivě sociálně-kulturní, kdy jako „Romy“ chápe nositele specifické (tj. romské) kultury a romskou kriminalitu pak následně jako specifickou součást této kultury, respektive jako výsledek kontaktu nositelů této kultury s kulturou majoritní (zde české) společnosti. V této poloze je celý text kritikou všech – v české a slovenské populaci doposud převládajících – představ o tom, že kriminální jednání mají Romové/Cikáni vrozené („v krvi“). V úzké vazbě na centrální otázku se autor snaží odhalit příčiny romské kriminality. V základním plánu pak identifikuje dva základní typy těchto příčin – jednak příčiny vyplývající z determinace specifickou (tj. romskou) kulturní tradicí, za druhé pak příčiny vyplývající z adaptace Romů (v uvedeném smyslu) na současné podmínky české společnosti. Podložím celé studie jsou autorovy výzkumy prováděné jednak v tzv. romských osadách na Slovensku a jednak v tzv. romských ghettech v České republice., The main question of the article is whether there exists a specific Roma criminality. In his study, which primarily answers the above mentioned question, the author examines the issue from the socio-cultural perspective, that is he considers “Roma” as bearers of a specific (i.e. Roma) culture and Roma criminality as a specific part of this culture, or more precisely, as a consequence of the contact of the bearers of this culture with the bearers of the culture of the majority (in this case Czech) society. In this sense, the paper represents a criticism of all the conceptions of Roma criminality based on a presumption that criminal behaviour is part of the Roma nature (“it is in their blood”). In this connection, the author makes an attempt to discover the causes of Roma criminality. At a general level, he identifies two types of these causes: 1) causes determined by a specific (i.e. Roma) cultural tradition and 2) causes resulting from the adaptation of the Roma (in a given sense) to the contemporary situation of the Czech society. The purpose of this paper is to examine the image of the city as represented and conceptualized in the works of prominent modern Arab poets, mainly since the 1950s. In this article, I will argue that the attitude of these modernists toward the city is characterized by a unique ambivalence. On the one hand, many of them (particularly those who migrated from provincial towns and rural areas to a capital city) unequivocally depict the city or metropolis as a harsh and cruel prison. On the other hand, these same poets recognize the immeasurable possibilites and the immense cultural space the big city offers its inhabitants, especially its poets and artists. Accordingly, a more incisive reading of their works reveals that modern Arab poets are also enthralled and captivated by the modern city. They feel that they have to put up with the metropolis, awe inspiring as it may be, distant from the "firsts sky" as it may be, because it allows them to confront paradox and incongruity, thus eliciting creativity. Therefore, as far as most Arab modernist poets are concerned, having been uprooted from their home village has put them face to face with "the other". In their eyes, it is exactly this challenge to their comfortable and somewhat stolid existence that propels them to the forefront of artistic creation.
Takotsubo kardiomyopatie je náhle vzniklé onemocnění charakterizované reverzibilní poruchou kinetiky levé srdeční komory. V typickém případě se rozvíjí následkem silného stresového podnětu a prezentuje se symptomy, EKG a laboratorním nálezem, které připomínají akutní koronární syndrom. Od toho se liší nepřítomností onemocnění koronárních tepen a ve většině případů nekomplikovaným průběhem s následnou velmi dobrou dlouhodobou prognózou. V kazuistice popisujeme případ 63leté ženy, u které se počátek onemocnění projevil fibrilací komor. Díky okamžité kardiopulmonální resuscitaci a následné odborné péči ve specializovaném kardiocentru, která mimo jiné zahrnovala implantaci implantabilního kardioverteru-defibrilátoru v rámci sekundární prevence náhlé srdeční smrti, se pacientka zotavila bez jakýchkoliv následků. Takotsubo kardiomyopatie je důležitou jednotkou v diferenciální diagnóze akutního koronárního syndromu. I přes dobrou prognózu, kterou se vyznačuje ve většině případů, ji nelze podcenit a zaslouží si náležitou pozornost a léčbu, která umožní předcházet případným komplikacím., Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) is an acute syndrome characterized by rapid onset of transient systolic dysfunction of the left ventricle. Symptoms, ECG and laboratory findings resemble acute coronary syndrome, from which TTC differs by the absence of coronary artery disease. In typical cases, TTC is triggered by exposure to unexpected stress and the clinical course and prognosis are very good. We present a case of a 63-year-old woman, in whom the onset of the disease was complicated by ventricular fibrillation. The patient recovered without sequelae thanks to immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation and following care in a specialized cardiocenter, which involved also implantation of implantable cardioverter defibrillator to prevent sudden cardiac death. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is an important entity in the differential diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome. The Black Death plague constituted a major disruption of the ordinary pace of life of the society in early modern period. As such it attracted interest and drew attention. The Black Death menace caused panic and fear, and therefore various measures and actions which were supposed to prevent the outbreak of the plague or at least considerably limit its consequences were defined and carried out. Such practices were shaped by contemporary ideologies and mentalities and reflected everyday experience. The study of various means of dealing with the Black Death menace may be like looking in a mirror in which the curves of the quotidian lifestyle of the period are reflected. The present paper which analyses the last Black Death plague of 1713-1714 in the environment of a southBohemian town offers one such view. The mechanisms which the inhabitants of the regional capital Písek formulated and applied in the attempt to confront the iimpending Black Death menace, are specifically examined. The article presents a survey of the so-called noun-verb transitions – which are traditionally labeled as huóyòng or “live usage” – in the Shījīng, and touches upon the more general issue of word-class flexibility in old varieties of Chinese. It is based on a theoretical platform elaborated in my previous study, which itself drew on the corpus of Classical Chinese prose. An application of the theory on the Shījīng thus constitutes an extension of this material by reference to data from Pre-Classical poetry, which enables us to observe both similarities and possible differences between the two periods and styles of the language. Instances of well-established patterns are summarized in a list and supplemented by a brief commentary; much space is, on the other hand, dedicated to less predictable derivations, which deserve closer attention and call for a more detailed investigation. Special attention is paid also to the role of metaphor and metonymy in the respective processes. The analysis reveals the complexity and fine-grained stratification of the phenomenon at issue, tests and proves the usefulness of the system of interpretative instruments proposed earlier, and invites further exploration in relation to the role and distribution of noun-verb huóyòng in this canonical book.
Cíl: předvést praktické použití softwarové techniky určené k analýze variance - one-way ANOVA - ke dvěma účelům verifikačního procesu: k odhadu nejistoty analytické metody dle dokumentu CLSI (Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute) C51-A Vol. 32 No. 4 „Expression of Measurement Uncertainty in Laboratory Medicine, Approved Guideline“, 2012 [1] a současně ke zjednodušení postupu verifikace preciznosti měřicího postupu dle CLSI EP15-A2 Vol. 25 No.17 „User Verification of Performance for Precision and Trueness; Approved Guideline, Second Edition“ [2]. Výsledky: aplikace obou normativních postupů je předvedena v praktickém příkladu odhadu nejistoty jedné koncentrační hladiny látkové koncentrace urey v lidském séru (měřená veličina) a současně ke zjednodušenému postupu verifikace preciznosti tohoto měřicího postupu. Verifikační experiment odpovídá dokumentu EP15-A2 a měření se prováděla na jedné koncentrační hladině měřené veličiny vždy ve třech opakováních v průběhu pěti dní. Cíl - diskuse: předvést možnost zjednodušení verifikačního postupu. Závěr: Pomocí techniky one-way ANOVA lze současně provést výpočet nejistoty měření i mezilehlé (celkové) preciznosti., Objective: To demonstrate the practical use of the „one-way ANOVA“ technique for the expression of measurement uncertainty in laboratory medicine as well as to simplify the process of the user verification of performance for precision according, according to documents CLSI (Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute), titled as C51-A Vol.32 No.4 „Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement Laboratory Medicine, Approved Guideline“, 2012 [1], next only the C51-A, and according to CLSI EP15-A2 Vol. 25 No.17 document titled as „User verification of Performance for Precision and trueness; Approved Guideline, Second Edition“ [2], hereinafter EP15-A2. Results: The application of both normative practices is demonstrated in the practical example use for the uncertainty method estimation on one concentration level of the urea molar concentration in the human serum (measurand), together with the simplified procedure of the user verification of the method performance for the precision. The verification experiment matches the document EP15-A2, i.e. one measurand level running in 3 replicates on each of the 5 days. The calculation of the measurement uncertainty and the intermediate precision is processed by analyzing components of the variability in the „one-way ANOVA“ technique. Cieľom projektu bolo zlepšiť informovanosť mladých ľudí o ochorení diabetes mellitus, zmapovať ich zdravotný stav a podporiť zdravý životný štýl (zdravé správanie) ako významný komponent v prevencii proti uvedenému ochoreniu. For integers $m > r \geq0$, Brietzke (2008) defined the $(m,r)$-central coefficients of an infinite lower triangular matrix $G=(d, h)=(d_{n,k})_{n,k \in\mathbb{N}}$ as $ d_{mn+r,(m-1)n+r}$, with $n=0,1,2,\cdots$, and the $(m,r)$-central coefficient triangle of $G$ as $G^{(m,r)} = (d_{mn+r,(m-1)n+k+r})_{n,k \in\mathbb{N}}. $ It is known that the $(m,r)$-central coefficient triangles of any Riordan array are also Riordan arrays. In this paper, for a Riordan array $G=(d,h)$ with $h(0)=0$ and $d(0), h'(0)\not= 0$, we obtain the generating function of its $(m,r)$-central coefficients and give an explicit representation for the $(m,r)$-central Riordan array $G^{(m,r)}$ in terms of the Riordan array $G$. Meanwhile, the algebraic structures of the $(m,r)$-central Riordan arrays are also investigated, such as their decompositions, their inverses, and their recessive expressions in terms of $m$ and $r$. It is known that a ring $R$ is left Noetherian if and only if every left $R$-module has an injective (pre)cover. We show that $(1)$ if $R$ is a right $n$-coherent ring, then every right $R$-module has an $(n,d)$-injective (pre)cover; $(2)$ if $R$ is a ring such that every $(n,0)$-injective right $R$-module is $n$-pure extending, and if every right $R$-module has an $(n,0)$-injective cover, then $R$ is right $n$-coherent. As applications of these results, we give some characterizations of $(n,d)$-rings, von Neumann regular rings and semisimple rings.
In the present paper we are concerned with convergence in $\mu $-density and $\mu $-statistical convergence of sequences of functions defined on a subset $D$ of real numbers, where $\mu $ is a finitely additive measure. Particularly, we introduce the concepts of $\mu $-statistical uniform convergence and $\mu $-statistical pointwise convergence, and observe that $\mu $-statistical uniform convergence inherits the basic properties of uniform convergence.
Let $R$ be a ring and $M$ a right $R$-module. $M$ is called $ \oplus $-cofinitely supplemented if every submodule $N$ of $M$ with $\frac{M}{N}$ finitely generated has a supplement that is a direct summand of $M$. In this paper various properties of the $\oplus $-cofinitely supplemented modules are given. It is shown that (1) Arbitrary direct sum of $\oplus $-cofinitely supplemented modules is $\oplus $-cofinitely supplemented. (2) A ring $R$ is semiperfect if and only if every free $R$-module is $\oplus $-cofinitely supplemented. In addition, if $M$ has the summand sum property, then $M$ is $\oplus $-cofinitely supplemented iff every maximal submodule has a supplement that is a direct summand of $M$.
A sign pattern $A$ is a $\pm $ sign pattern if $A$ has no zero entries. $A$ allows orthogonality if there exists a real orthogonal matrix $B$ whose sign pattern equals $A$. Some sufficient conditions are given for a sign pattern matrix to allow orthogonality, and a complete characterization is given for $\pm $ sign patterns with $n-1 \le N_-(A) \le n+1$ to allow orthogonality.
We prove a separable reduction theorem for $\sigma $-porosity of Suslin sets. In particular, if $A$ is a Suslin subset in a Banach space $X$, then each separable subspace of $X$ can be enlarged to a separable subspace $V$ such that $A$ is $\sigma $-porous in $X$ if and only if $A\cap V$ is $\sigma $-porous in $V$. Such a result is proved for several types of $\sigma $-porosity. The proof is done using the method of elementary submodels, hence the results can be combined with other separable reduction theorems. As an application we extend a theorem of L. Zajíček on differentiability of Lipschitz functions on separable Asplund spaces to the nonseparable setting.
In [1], Jakubík showed that the class of $\sigma $-interpolation lattice-ordered groups forms a radical class, but left open the question of whether the class forms a torsion class. In this paper, we show that this class does indeed form a torsion class.
By analogy with the projective, injective and flat modules, in this paper we study some properties of $C$-Gorenstein projective, injective and flat modules and discuss some connections between $C$-Gorenstein injective and $C$-Gorenstein flat modules. We also investigate some connections between $C$-Gorenstein projective, injective and flat modules of change of rings.
For a nontrivial connected graph $F$, the $F$-degree of a vertex $v$ in a graph $G$ is the number of copies of $F$ in $G$ containing $v$. A graph $G$ is $F$-continuous (or $F$-degree continuous) if the $F$-degrees of every two adjacent vertices of $G$ differ by at most 1. All $P_3$-continuous graphs are determined. It is observed that if $G$ is a nontrivial connected graph that is $F$-continuous for all nontrivial connected graphs $F$, then either $G$ is regular or $G$ is a path. In the case of a 2-connected graph $F$, however, there always exists a regular graph that is not $F$-continuous. It is also shown that for every graph $H$ and every 2-connected graph $F$, there exists an $F$-continuous graph $G$ containing $H$ as an induced subgraph.
In this paper, we prove that a space $X$ is a $g$-metrizable space if and only if $X$ is a weak-open, $\pi $ and $\sigma $-image of a semi-metric space, if and only if $X$ is a strong sequence-covering, quotient, $\pi $ and $mssc$-image of a semi-metric space, where “semi-metric” can not be replaced by “metric”.
The concepts of $k$-systems, $k$-networks and $k$-covers were defined by A. Arhangel’skiǐ in 1964, P. O’Meara in 1971 and R. McCoy, I. Ntantu in 1985, respectively. In this paper the relationships among $k$-systems, $k$-networks and $k$-covers are further discussed and are established by $mk$-systems. As applications, some new characterizations of quotients or closed images of locally compact metric spaces are given by means of $mk$-systems.
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring. It is shown that the finitely generated $R$-module $M$ with finite Gorenstein dimension is reflexive if and only if $M_{\mathfrak p}$ is reflexive for ${\mathfrak p} \in {\rm Spec}(R) $ with ${\rm depth}(R_{\mathfrak p}) \leq 1$, and ${\mbox {G-{\rm dim}}}_{R_{\mathfrak p}} (M_{\mathfrak p}) \leq {\rm depth}(R_{\mathfrak p})-2 $ for ${\mathfrak p}\in {\rm Spec} (R) $ with ${\rm depth}(R_{\mathfrak p})\geq 2 $. This gives a generalization of Serre and Samuel's results on reflexive modules over a regular local ring and a generalization of a recent result due to Belshoff. In addition, for $n\geq 2$ we give a characterization of $n$-Gorenstein rings via Gorenstein dimension of the dual of modules. Finally it is shown that every $R$-module has a $k$-torsionless cover provided $R$ is a $k$-Gorenstein ring.
In this paper, we consider the global existence, uniqueness and $L^{\infty }$ estimates of weak solutions to quasilinear parabolic equation of $m$-Laplacian type $u_{t}-\mathop {\rm div}(|\nabla u|^{m-2}\nabla u)=u|u|^{\beta -1}\int _{\Omega } |u|^{\alpha } {\rm d} x$ in $\Omega \times (0,\infty )$ with zero Dirichlet boundary condition in $\partial \Omega $. Further, we obtain the $L^{\infty }$ estimate of the solution $u(t)$ and $\nabla u(t)$ for $t>0$ with the initial data $u_0\in L^q(\Omega )$ $(q>1)$, and the case $\alpha +\beta < m-1$.
In this paper $LJ$-spaces are introduced and studied. They are a common generalization of Lindelöf spaces and $J$-spaces researched by E. Michael. A space $X$ is called an $LJ$-space if, whenever $\lbrace A,B\rbrace $ is a closed cover of $X$ with $A\cap B$ compact, then $A$ or $B$ is Lindelöf. Semi-strong $LJ$-spaces and strong $LJ$-spaces are also defined and investigated. It is demonstrated that the three spaces are different and have interesting properties and behaviors.
We characterize statistical independence of sequences by the $L^p$-discrepancy and the Wiener $L^p$-discrepancy. Furthermore, we find asymptotic information on the distribution of the $L^2$-discrepancy of sequences.
We show for $2\le p<\infty $ and subspaces $X$ of quotients of $L_{p}$ with a $1$-unconditional finite-dimensional Schauder decomposition that $K(X,\ell _{p})$ is an $M$-ideal in $L(X,\ell _{p})$.
We study the position of compact operators in the space of all continuous linear operators and its subspaces in terms of ideals. One of our main results states that for Banach spaces $X$ and $Y$ the subspace of all compact operators $\mathcal K(X,Y)$ is an $M(r_1 r_2, s_1 s_2)$-ideal in the space of all continuous linear operators $\mathcal L(X,Y)$ whenever $\mathcal K(X,X)$ and $\mathcal K(Y,Y)$ are $M(r_1,s_1)$- and $M(r_2,s_2)$-ideals in $\mathcal L(X,X)$ and $\mathcal L(Y,Y)$, respectively, with $r_1+s_1/2>1$ and $r_2+s_2/2>1$. We also prove that the $M(r,s)$-ideal $\mathcal K(X,Y)$ in $\mathcal L(X,Y)$ is separably determined. Among others, our results complete and improve some well-known results on $M$-ideals.
In analogy with effect algebras, we introduce the test spaces and $MV$-test spaces. A test corresponds to a hypothesis on the propositional system, or, equivalently, to a partition of unity. We show that there is a close correspondence between $MV$-algebras and $MV$-test spaces.
In this paper, we study the existence of the $n$-flat preenvelope and the $n$-FP-injective cover. We also characterize $n$-coherent rings in terms of the $n$-FP-injective and $n$-flat modules.
We introduce the notion of weak dually residuated lattice ordered semigroups (WDRL-semigroups) and investigate the relation between $R_0$-algebras and WDRL-semigroups. We prove that the category of $R_0$-algebras is equivalent to the category of some bounded WDRL-semigroups. Moreover, the connection between WDRL-semigroups and DRL-semigroups is studied.
We observe that a separable Banach space $X$ is reflexive iff each of its quotients with Schauder basis is reflexive. Similarly if $\mathcal L(X,Y)$ is not reflexive for reflexive $X$ and $Y$ then $\mathcal L(X_1, Y)$ is is not reflexive for some $X_1\subset X$, $X_1$ having a basis.
The authors consider the changes in the conception, organization, ways of spending, and forms of leisure in the Czech Lands from the establishment of the Communist monopoly on power in early 1948 to the second half of the 1950s. (After this point leisure time here began strikingly to change under the infl uence of consumerist trends.) They consider the topic in the context of the dominant ideology and changes in economic, social, and arts policies. The authors take into account gender differences, contrasts between town and country, and special features of social groups. They pay particular attention to leisure amongst young people and children. The authors do not, however, see the Communist takeover of February 1948 as a watershed in the sphere of leisure. Instead, they demonstrate both the continuity and differences between the period of limited democracy, from May 1945 to February 1948, and the years that followed. In some cases, they highlight features that were identical in Nazi German and Communist approaches to leisure activities (the rejection of jazz, ''trash'' (brak) in the arts, and Western infl uences in general). The authors discuss how the Communist regime intervened intensively in the way people chose to spend their free time, in its endeavour to shape a new type of man and woman in the new social conditions. At the same time, particularly in the late 1940s and early 1950s, the State so emphasized the importance of the work of building socialism, that leisure was seen as a ''necessary evil'', since it used up valuable physical and mental energy that would have been better spent on increasing productivity. For the same aims, but also with regard to the idea of somewhatdemocratising the arts, the regime gave preference to activities such as political and vocational self-education as well as the study of selected arts and cultural values. In keeping with the subordination of the individual to the interests of society, collective forms of recreation and the leisure (holidays spent with groups of co-workers, mass group visits to plays, fi lms, concerts, museums, galleries, and, later, Pioneer camps) were given priority. Traditional club activity and individual leisure were seen as ''bourgeois survivals''. Some young people’s non-conformist leisure activities met with suspicion from the authorities or with outright repression. Amongst the models of leisure that the regime held worthy of emulation were the Socialist youth construction projects (stavby mládeže), ''volunteer'' work, and additional instruction or training. The new organizations, such as the Revolutionary Trades Union Movement (Revoluční odborové hnutí - ROH), the Czechoslovak Union of Youth (Československý svaz mládeže - ČSM), and the Union for Co-operation with the Army (Svaz pro spolupráci s armádou - Svazarm), which took the place of the earlier clubs and associations, comported with the new ideology and provided the required forms of leisure. The authorities endeavoured also to support considerably developed and differentiated hobbies, such as making art, playing board games, and collecting. Special facilities were established to run these activities, including the enterprise-based clubs of the ROH, houses of culture (kulturní domy), and people’s educational societies (osvětové besedy). Forms of universally accessible activity, like chess and phillumeny (collecting matchbox labels), were supported, whereas fi nancially more demanding hobbies or those linked to private gain, such as philately or numismatics, were marginalized. A slight retreat from the ideologised conception of leisure came with the so-called ''new course'' of 1953. But more striking changes were made in the second half of the 1950s. These years, which saw shorter working weeks, a higher standard of living than before, and the emergence of consumerist trends, are described by the authors as a period of the planned expansion of leisure and its gradual individualisation.
The study deals with issues of corporate management and pitfalls of the ''socialist supervision'' in Czechoslovak enterprises in the period of late socialism. Using documents of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the State Security, period texts and specialized publications, it shows how party organs and state authorities were unsuccessfully trying to make supervisory mechanisms and audits a functional tool of the implementation of the ruling party´s economic policy. The author analyzes the supervisory and audit mechanisms that were used, and outlines basic reasons of the almost fatal failure of supervisory activities of the system which was, in a way, obsessed with supervision and control. He explains the systemic conditionality of the supervisory system which socialist managers often and in many respects bent to suit the needs of the enterprises they were in charge of; such situation naturally did not match the needs of the society as a whole. Using many specifi c cases as an example, the study graphically shows that members of the Czechoslovak corporate management community in the 1980s were fully aware of systemic, political and social limitations of the supervisory system which they managed to modify, fairly successfully, to suit intra-corporate conditions. The result was a situation in which the party leadership was reacting to increasingly obvious symptoms of the “agony of the centrally planned economy” by adopting various directives and guidelines to make the supervisory process more effective and to consistently promote the ''whoever manages - supervises'' principle. However, the anticipated effect did not materialize and, at the end of the day, the non-functional supervisory mechanisms made a substantial contribution to the collapse of the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia. and Překlad: Jiří Mareš
The article investigates how the Holocaust distorted and exploited in Cold War debates on the example of genesis and reception of the book Ghetto Warschau. Tagebücher aus dem Chaos [Warsaw Ghetto: Diaries from Chaos]. The book is a translation of the essay Stosunki polsko-żydowskie w czasie drugiej wojny światowej [Polish-Jewish relations during the Second World War], written by the Jewish historian and creator of the underground archive of the Warsaw Ghetto Emanuel Ringelblum while hiding from the German Occupiers in Warsaw in 1944. Ringelblum addressed his essay to the Polish reader discussing the relation of Christian Poles and Polish Jews under German occupation based on his own experience and the material he had collected. It was originally published in several portions in the Bulletin of the Jewish Historical Institute, an early Holocaust Research Center based in Warsaw. The German translation was based on this publication and published in summer 1967 in a Stuttgart-based publishing house. However, the new title, introduced by its German editors, suggested it was Ringelblum’s diary. Above that the blurb and many footnotes highlighted the role of Poles as perpetrators in the Holocaust, while minimizing that of Germans. As the article shows, the book was prepared by the Göttinger Arbeitskreis ostdeutscher Wissenschaftler [Göttingen Working Group of Eastern German Scholars], a Think Tank with close ties to the German expellee community, campaigning for a revision of the Polish western border. Göttinger Arbeitskries used the book and earlier on excerpts of Ringelblum’s text for a smear-campaign in the West-German expellee press. Through the biased presentation and distorted context of the work these former Ostforschers sought to portrait Poles as eternal anti-Semites and the factual perpetrators of the mass murder of Polish and European Jews following their anti-Polish agenda. Polish nationalist within the ruling Polish United Workers Party in turn exploited the book and the campaign based on it, which coincided with the anti-Semitic campaign in Poland. Social policy in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, from mid-March 1939 to early May 1945, is a key topic in contemporary research on the history of this brief period. The article is concerned with the possible approaches to research with regard to the latest trends in research on National Socialism. It begins with an outline of the historiography of social policy in the Protectorate, which is marked chiefl y by a predominant uniformity of argumentation, a lack of systematic approach to interpretation, and Czech and Czechoslovak historians’ limiting themselves to the ethnically Czech population. Research conducted so far has completely failed to put social policy into the context of social history. The author thus fi rst provides an outline of the social framework, which represents the concept of a Volksgemeinschaft (national/ethnic/racial community), in which ideas about the purpose and function of social policy were formed and implemented. In the next part, she focuses on the defi nition of the term ''social policy'' as understood by Nazi theorists after 1933. In the last part of the article, she seeks to defi ne the new social relations in the CzechGerman environment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and suggests possibilities of its analysis in the area of the implementation of social policy. She believes that it will be fruitful to study the implementation of the relevant criteria in the Reich and the Protectorate at the level of discussions among experts, and to research social policy in practice. The author sees the most important aspects of the implementation of social policy as residing in the various motivations of the regime when implementing social policy in relation to different parts of the population, ranging from social exclusion to forms of social protectionism.
The study deals with political activities of the Soviet Army in Czechoslovakia after the intervention on August 21, 1968, and its sympathizers from the ranks of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. The authoress examines the topic in the early stage of the so-called normalization (until the spring of 1970), focusing on the local level; however, she sets her research into a broader period context and derives general conclusions from its results. Although the offi cial agreement on the temporary stay of Soviet troops in the territory of Czechoslovakia declared that the Soviet Army should not interfere with domestic affairs of the Czechoslovak state, the Soviet leadership kept devising plans how to make use of the presence of Soviet troops for political purposes. Soviet offi cers participated in the dissemination of Soviet propaganda, established contacts with local anti-reform party offi cials, spoke at their forums, complained about hostile attitudes of Czechoslovak political bodies, and thus kept pressing for a legitimization of the political arrangements. The authoress shows that local pro-Soviet activists, who had maintained contacts with the Soviet Army from the very beginning and been taking over its political agenda, were playing a crucial role in the success of these efforts. In line with Soviet intentions, they were implementing the normalization process ''from below'',initiating purges in various organs, demanding the dismissal of offi cials protesting against presence of the Soviet Army, participating in the subsequent political vetting. They were actively pushing through a change of the offi cial approach to the Soviet Army and helped break its boycott by the Czechoslovak society, which had initially been almost unanimous. In doing so, they were making use of their personal contacts to organize manifestation ''friendship'' meetings and visits of Soviet soldiers to Czechoslovak schools and factories. The authoress analyzes the reasons of the attitude of these activists, most of whom came from the ranks of ''old'' (pre-war) and ''distinguished'' members of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, and illustrates the development outlined above by specifi c examples. By way of conclusion, she notes that, although different forms of the CzechoslovakSoviet ''friendship'' since 1968 are often viewed as mere formalistic acts without any deeper meaning at the level of ''lived'' experience, they were, from the viewpoint of the Soviet policy, well thought-out and centrally planned propagandistic activities which contributed to the promotion of the Soviet interpretation of the Prague Spring and the Soviet invasion and discredited its opponents. and Přeložila Blanka Medková
Homeownership has been in decline in a number of developed societies since the early 2000s driven, primarily, by declining entry among younger households who have been increasingly pushed into the rental sector. This trend has been associated with a growing intergenerational divide, or even conflict, and the emergence of ‘Generation Rent’. This paper explores the conditions surrounding diminishing access to owner-occupation among new households with a focus on the historic maturation of homeownership sectors, the restructuring of the political economy (financialization) around housing wealth and the inter-cohort dynamics surrounding the accumulation and transfer of housing wealth. The paper takes an international perspective drawing on evidence from two parallel, but contrasting cases: Japan and the UK. The analysis illustrates the interrelatedness of interand intra-generational inequalities, with the former reinforcing the latter. It also focuses on the role of families as both a moderator of generational inequity at the micro level as well as an enhancer of socioeconomic inequalities overall.
The residualisation of social housing sectors requires housing managers to intensify social management activities aimed at promoting tenants’ wellbeing and social cohesion. This paper discusses the implementation of such activities in the Italian public housing sector. It juxtaposes the vision conceptualised at the policy level with the daily activities of housing managers in practice on the ground and highlights the gaps between policy goals and realities of tenants’ involvement. While social management activities are expected to contribute to breaking the vicious circle of financial, technical, and social decline that has long affected public housing estates, the short timeframe of the planned interventions raises the question of the potential for structural change.
This article explores the trajectory of so-called guaranteed social housing in the Czech Republic as an example of penetrating financial instruments into the public policy realm. The project, promoted by the government’s Agency for Social Inclusion, was intended to encourage private landlords to rent their properties to people in need through commercial insurance against the risk of rent defaults. Using policy documents, media and interviews with governmental officers, the article describes the performative strength of financial instruments in the sphere traditionally occupied by the welfare state. In financialisation literature, the proliferation of financial instruments is often described as a one-way process in which these instruments colonise public domains. However, the empirical case discussed in the article shows that this process is much more complex and contingent, and financial instruments are not used as the best option but rather as a last resort in a situation marked by weak policies.
The question of the reasons for the extreme variation in morbidity among the gene carriers of acute porphyria and the great diversity of the precipitating factors are approached by the aid of a model of interacting genomic circuits. It is based on the current paradigm of the acute porphyric attack as a result of a toxic proximal overload of the enzyme-
deficient heme-biosynthetic patway. Porphyrogenic influx of precursors is seen as a consequence of uncontrolled induction of its gate-keeping enzyme, ubiquitous 5-aminolevulinate synthase (ALAS1), due to attenuated post-translational control of the enzyme combined with activated gene transcription. Focus is directed on the genomic
control of the master-regulator of ALAS1-transcription, the nuclear receptor pair constitutively active receptor (CAR) and pregnane xenobiotic receptor (PXR). On activation by their ligands, i.e. lipophilic drugs, solvents, alcohols, hormonal steroids and biocides, these DNA-binding proteins transform xenobiotic or steroid stimuli to coordinated
activations of gene transcription-programs for ALAS1 and apo-cytochromes P450 (apo-CYPs), thus effecting the formation of xenobiotic-metabolizing cytochrome P450 enzymes. The potency of the CAR/PXR-transduction axis is enhanced by co-activators generated in
at least four other genomic circuits, each triggered by different external and internal stimuli clinically experienced to be porphyroge
nic, and each controlled by co-activating and co-repressing modulators. The expressions of the genes for CAR and PXR are thus augmented by binding glucocorticoid receptor (GR) activated by a steroid hormone, e.g, cortisol generated in fasting, infection or different forms of stress. The promotor regions of ALAS1 and apoCYPs contain binding sites for at least three co-activating transcription factors enhancing CAR/PXR transduction: i.e. the ligand-independent growth hormone (GH)-pulse controlled hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 (HNF4), the insulin-responsive forkhead box class O-(FOXO) protein pathway activated in stress and infection, and the proliferator-activated receptor gamma co-activator 1 al
pha (PGC-1alpha) circuit responding to glucagon liberated in fasting. Many interactions and cross-talk take place within the tangle of genomic circuits that control ALAS1-transcription, which may explain the extreme inter- and intra-individual variability in morbidity in acute porphyria. Reasons for gender-differences are found in sex-dependent control of HPA- and GH-activity as well as in direct, or GR-mediated effects on CAR/PCR activation. Constitutional differences in individual porphyric morbidity may be discussed along lines of mutations or duplications of genes for co-activating or co-repressing nuclear proteins active at different levels within the circuits.
In the course of cytogenetic studies on Alegoria castelnaui Fleutiaux & Sallé 1889 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Tenebrioninae: Ulomini) from Guadeloupe, a number of adult specimens were dissected. A larva was found in the abdomens of almost all of the females. The karyotype, 20,XX / 20,Xyp, and the presence of heterochromatin at multiple chromosomal locations, of the larvae and adults were similar, which excludes parasitism and indicates viviparous reproduction. The adverse habitat of the adults, i.e., putrid and fermenting pseudo-stems of banana trees rather than geo-climatic conditions, may explain the occurrence of viviparity in this species. This is the first example of (ovo-)viviparity in the Ulomini tribe and among New World Tenebrionidae. A. castelnaui is regularly collected on banana trees infested with the weevil Cosmopolites sordidus Germar, 1824, a major pest of banana trees around the word. The coexistence of these two species on banana trees may be coincidental but another Ulomini species, Eutochia pulla Erichson 1843, is described as an egg predator of C. sordidus in Africa and therefore, A. castelnaui could also be a predator of this pest.
(Pro)renin receptor (PRR) contributes to regulating many physiological and pathological processes; however, the role of PRR-mediated signaling pathways in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) remains unclear. In this study, we used an in vitro model of hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) to mimic IRI and carried out PRR knockdown by siRNA and PRR overexpression using cDNA in H9c2 cells. Cell proliferation activity was examined by MTT and Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assays. Apoptosis-related factors, autophagy markers and β-catenin pathway activity were assessed by real-time PCR and western blotting. After 24 h of hypoxia followed by 2 h of reoxygenation, the expression levels of PRR, LC3B-I/II, Beclin1, cleaved caspase-3, cleaved caspase-9 and Bax were upregulated, suggesting that apoptosis and autophagy were increased in H9c2 cells. Contrary to the effects of PRR downregulation, the overexpression of PRR inhibited proliferation, induced apoptosis, increased the expression of pro-apoptotic factors and autophagy markers, and promoted activation of the β-catenin pathway. Furthermore, all these effects were reversed by treatment with the β-catenin antagonist DKK-1. Thus, we concluded that PRR activation can trigger H/R-induced apoptosis and autophagy in H9c2 cells through the β-catenin signaling pathway, which may provide new therapeutic targets for the prevention and treatment of myocardial IRI.

Several characterizations of 0-distributive posets are obtained by using the prime ideals as well as the semiprime ideals. It is also proved that if every proper l-filter of a poset is contained in a proper semiprime filter, then it is 0-distributive. Further, the concept of a semiatom in 0-distributive posets is introduced and characterized in terms of dual atoms and also in terms of maximal annihilator. Moreover, semiatomic 0-distributive posets are defined and characterized. It is shown that a 0-distributive poset P is semiatomic if and only if the intersection of all non dense prime ideals of P equals (0]. Some counterexamples are also given.
The concept of a 0-ideal in 0-distributive posets is introduced. Several properties of 0-ideals in 0-distributive posets are established. Further, the interrelationships between 0-ideals and α-ideals in 0-distributive posets are investigated. Moreover, a characterization of prime ideals to be 0-ideals in 0-distributive posets is obtained in terms of non-dense ideals. It is shown that every 0-ideal of a 0-distributive meet semilattice is semiprime. Several counterexamples are discussed.
The relative cohomology Hdiff1(K(1|3), osp(2, 3);Dγ,µ(S1|3)) of the contact Lie superalgebra K(1|3) with coefficients in the space of differential operators Dγ,µ(S1|3) acting on tensor densities on S1|3, is calculated in N.Ben Fraj, I. Laraied, S. Omri (2013) and the generating 1-cocycles are expressed in terms of the infinitesimal super-Schwarzian derivative 1-cocycle s(Xf) = D1D2D3(f)α31/2, Xf \in K(1|3) which is invariant with respect to the conformal subsuperalgebra osp(2, 3) of K(1|3). In this work we study the supergroup case. The adrenal glands produce significant amounts of steroid hormones and their metabolites, with various levels of androgenic activities. Until recently, the androgenic potency of these adrenal-derived compounds were not well known, but some recent studies have shown that the production of 11-oxoand 11β-hydroxy-derived testosterone and dihydrotestosterone evidently have high androgenic activity. This fact has clinical importance, for instance, in various types of congenital adrenal hyperplasia with androgenization or polycystic ovarian syndrome, and laboratory determinations of these substances could help to better evaluate the total androgen pressure in patients with these disorders. Another area of concern is the treatment of prostate cancer with androgen deprivation, which loses effectiveness after a certain time. The 14-3-3 proteins are a family of acidicr egulatory molecules found in all eukaryotes. 14-3-3 proteins function as molecular scaffolds by modulating the conformation of their binding partners. Through the functional modulation of a wide range of binding partners, 14-3-3 proteins are involved in many processes including cell cycle regulation, metabolism control, apoptosis, and control of gene transcription. This minireview includes a short overview of 14-3-3 proteins and then focuses on their role in the regulation of two important binding partners: FOXO forkhead transcription factors and an enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase., V. Speleothems in 6 sandstone caves in the Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj) were dated by means of 14C and U-series methods. Stable isotopes of C and O, FAAS, IR, XRD, XRF and SEM were used to characterize the carbonate material and its source. Stable isotopes (C and O) composition of speleothems in two caves corresponds to values characteristic for cave speleothems in Central Europe. In other caves they indicate evaporation and fast carbon dioxide escape during carbonate precipitation. The speleothems from the Krtola Cave were deposited between 8 and 13 kyr BP. Speleothems were deposited 5-8 kyr BP in the Sintrová, Mrtvé Údolí and U Studánky caves. Calcite coatings on smooth sandstone surfaces in studied caves demonstrate that cave walls did not retreat even a few mm in the last 5-8 kyr since speleothem deposition and are thus not evolving under recent climatic conditions. Most of the cave ceilings and walls are at present time indurated by hardened surfaces, which protect the sandstone from erosion. Sandstone caves probably intensively evolved either during or at the end of the Last Glacial period. There are two different erosion mechanisms which might have formed/reshaped the caves at that time: A) In the case of permafrost conditions: Repeated freeze/melt cycles affecting sandstone pore space followed by the transport of fallen sand grains by minor temporary trickles. Our own study as well as others have previously reported that hypoxia activates 15-lipoxygenase (15-LO) in the brain, causing a series of chain reactions, which exacerbates ischemic stroke. 15-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (15-HETE) and 15-oxoeicosatetraenoic acid (15-oxo-ETE/15-KETE) are 15-LO-specific metabolites of arachidonic acid (AA). 15-HETE was found to be rapidly converted into 15-oxo-ETE by 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-PGDH) in some circumstances. We have demonstrated that 15-HETE promotes cerebral vasoconstriction during hypoxia. However, the effect of 15-oxo-ETE upon the contraction of cerebral vasculature remains unclear. To investigate this effect and to clarify the underlying mechanism, we performed immunohistochemistry and Western blot to test the expression of 15-PGDH in rat cerebral tissue, examined internal carotid artery (ICA) tension in isolated rat ICA rings. Western blot and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) were used to analyze the expression of voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels (Kv2.1, Kv1.5, and Kv1.1) in cultured cerebral arterial smooth muscle cells (CASMCs). The results showed that the levels of 15-PGDH expression were drastically elevated in the cerebral of rats with hypoxia, and 15-oxo-ETE enhanced ICA contraction in a dose-dependent manner. This effect was more significant in the hypoxic rats than in the normoxic rats. We also found that 15-oxo-ETE significantly attenuated the expression of Kv2.1 and Kv1.5, but not Kv1.1. Cíl: Zjistit přínos 18F-fluorocholinového PET/ CT (18F-FCH PET/CT) pro cílenou biopsii prostaty u pacientů s opakovaně negativními biopsiemi a trvajícím podezřením na přítomnost karcinomu prostaty. Soubor pacientů a metoda: Od ledna 2013 do května 2015 jsme provedli 18-F-FCH PET/CT cholinové PET CT vyšetření u 30 pacientů. Indikačním kritériem bylo PSA nad 10 ng/ml a prodělání více než tři biopsií prostaty, včetně biopsie saturační. Pokud to bylo možné, pak pacienti předem prodělali šestitýdenní kůru ATB terapie Doxycyklinem 100mg 2x denně k eliminaci zánětu, a tím možným falešně pozitivním nálezům na 18F-FCH PET/CT. Poté bylo provedeno PET/CT vyšetření a následně s odstupem byla provedena cílená biopsie ložisek popsaných na 18F-FCH PET/CT. Cílená biopsie byla provedena pod sonografickou kontrolou transrektálně za pomoci kognitivní fúze PET/CT obrazu s real-time sonografickým záznamem. Byly odebírány jen vzorky z ložisek popsaných na PET/CT. Výsledky: Od ledna 2013 do května 2015 absolvovalo 18F-FCH PET/CT 30 pacientů. Průměrný věk pacientů byl 66 let v rozmezí 57–75 let. U 14 z nich jsme potvrdili karcinom prostaty, což činí 46% záchyt ve skupině rebiopsií. Všichni tito pacienti měli Gleasonovo skóre vyšší než sedm a PSA vyšší než 20 ng/ml. Závěr: V našem souboru jsme prokázali přínos 18F-FCH PET/CT u pacientů s opakovaně negativními biopsiemi a pokračující elevací PSA, u kterých nebyl karcinom prostaty standardním způsobem detekován. Ložisko vyznačené pomocí 18F-cholinufluorocholinu umožnilo cílenou biopsii pod sonografickou kontrolou. V současnosti není jednoznačné doporučení, jak postupovat u pacientů, u kterých máme opakovaně negativní biopsie prostaty a trvá podezření na přítomnost karcinomu. Využití 18F-FCH PET/CT se jeví jako jedna z mož- ností., Aim: The aim of the study was to determine the benefits of 18F-fluorocholine PET/CT in patients with repeated negative biopsies and continued suspicion of prostate carcinoma. Material and methods: 18F-fluorocholine PET/CT (18F-FCH PET/CT) was performed with 30 patients from January 2013 until May 2015. Indication criteria were PSA above 10 ng/ml and three biopsies. If possible patients underwent six weeks treatment of antibiotic therapy with Doxycyclin 100mg twice per day to eliminate inflammation and possible false findings in PET/CT. Then PET/CT was performed with following targeted biopsy of focus from 18F-FCH PET/CT. Targeted biopsy was done under the sonographic transrectal control with the help of cognitive fusion PET/CT image with real-time sonography. Only samples from centers identified with PET/CT were taken. Results: From January 2013 until May 2015 30 patients underwent 18F-FCH PET/CT. Average age of patients was 66 years (57–75 years). We confirmed prostate cancer in 14 of them which is 46 % success in rebiopsy group. All these patients had Gleason score above seven and PSA higher than 20 ng/ml. Conclusions: We have shown in our sample the benefits of 18F-cholinFCH PET/CT in patients with repeated negative biopsies and continued PSA elevation, where prostate carcinoma was not detected in standard biopsies. The use of 18F-FCH PET/CT seems promising in diagnostic of prostate cancer where 18F-fluorocholine can be found also in slow growing cells of majority of prostate carcinoma. Obrovskobuněčné arteritida je řazena mezi vaskulitidy velkých cév. Jejím prvním projevem může být horečnatý stav s elevací markem zánětu (FW a CRP), v rámci vyšetřování takových nemocných lze využít PET (PET/CT) vyšetření. Cíl. Ověření, zda vysoká akumulace FDG ve stěnách velkých tepen odpovídá obrovskobuněčné arteritidě. Metoda. Zařazeno bylo 39 nemocných s podezřením na vaskulitidu velkých tepen na základě PET (25 pacientů) a PET/CT (14 pacientů), jednalo se o 30 žen a devět mužů ve věku 45-81 let, průměr 64,9 let, medián 65 let. K potvrzení byl zvolen přímý průkaz histologickým vyšetřením z excize tepny (4 pacienti) nebo nepřímý - terapeutický test poklesem FW a CRP při kortikoterapii v imunosupresivních dávkách (39 pacientů). Akumulace FDG byla měřena v sedmi cévních oblastech, pokud přesahovala akumulaci referenčního jaterního parenchymu, byla oblast hodnocena jako pozitivní. Kontrolním souborem byl vzorek 100 pacientů bez vaskulitidy. Porovnávány byly výsledky dalších zobrazovacích vyšetření. Výsledky. Obrovskobuněčné arteritis byla ověřena u tří ze čtyř histologických vyšetření. Nepřímým testem byla potvrzena vaskulitida u všech 39 pacientů. U pacientů s vaskulitidou před nasazením kortikoterapie byla nalézána pozitivita alespoň tří cévních oblastí, zatímco v kontrolním souboru byla nalézána pozitivita 0-2 cévních oblastí. Další zobrazovací vyšetření jasné známky vaskulitidy nedetekovala, mohla být hodnocena jako abnormní. Závěr. Nález generalizované vysoké akumulace FDG ve velkých tepnách u nemocných se známkami aktivního zánětlivého onemocnění svědčil pro vaskulitidu velkých tepen. PET (PET/CT) vyšetření detekovalo onemocnění v časné fázi a určovalo i jeho rozsah. Přímé zobrazení postižení spánkových tepen se zdařilo až za použití PET/CT skeneru., Aim. To verify if high FDG uptake in the walls of large vessels is corresponding with giant cell arteritis. Method. Based on PET (25 pts) and PET/ CT (14 pts) examinations, 39 patients with suspicion of large-vessel vasculitis formed a cohort in which were 30 males and 9 females aged 45-81 with a mean age of 64.9 and median of 65 years. For verifying, a direct proof using histologie examination of a vessel excision (4 pts) or an indirect one - a therapeutic test for ESR and CRP decreases during corticotherapy in immunosuppressive doses (39 pts) were opted. FDG uptake was measured in 7 vessel areas with an area evaluated as positive when it surpassed an uptake of the liver parenchyma. As a control group a sample of 100 patients free from vasculitis was used. For comparison, results from further imaging examinations were used. Results. Giant cell arteritis was proved in 3 from 4 histologie examinations. By indirect testing, vasculitis in all 39 patients was confirmed. In patients with vasculitis before the use of corticotherapy, positivity of at least 3 vessel areas was found, whereas in the control group positivity was observed in 0-2 vessel areas. Further imaging examinations did not detect clear symptoms of vasculitis, it could be evaluated as abnormal. Conclusion. The finding of generalized high FDG uptake in large vessels in patients with symptoms of active inflammatory disease gave evidence for large-vessel vasculitis. The PET (PET/CT) examinations detected the disease in its early phase and also determined the extent thereof. Cíl. Posoudit přínos 18F-FDG-PET/CT k volbě léčebné strategie u renálního karcinomu. Metoda. Byla provedena analýza souboru 40 nemocných (28 mužů a 12 žen s průměrným věkem 67,8 let v rozpětí 53-86 let), kteří podstoupili 18F-FDG-PET/CT. U všech nemocných bylo na základě ultrasonografie podezření na lokálně objemný nebo pokročilý renální karcinom. 18F-FDG-PET/CT vyšetření byla provedena protokolem, který zahrnoval dvoufázovou CT angiografii se zachycením ledvin v arteriální a venózní fázi. U nemocných byla porovnána úroveň akumulace 18F-FDG s histologicky stanoveným gradingem a dále byl sledován vývoj onemocnění po dobu 12 měsíců od provedení 18F-FDG-PET/CT. Výsledky. Celková mortalita v souboru byla 45%, nejvyšší úroveň akumulace dosahovaly nádory 4. stupně gradingu (průměrná hodnota SUV 10,4, rozpětí 5-22) , nejvyšší mortalita byla u nádorů s výší akumulace přesahující 10 SUVmax (63, 6%). Nové informace přineslo 18F-FDG-PET/CT ve srovnání s nálezem CT u 87,5%. Závěr: 18F-FDG-PET/CT přispívá k rozhodnutí o terapii, zejména odhalením vzdálené diseminace, ale má potenciál i k odhadu prognózy pomocí stanovení maximálních hod not akumulace 18F-FDG., Aim. To assess the impact of 18F-FDG-PET/ CT on the treatment decision in renal cell carcinoma. Method. The analysis of the sample of 40 patients was made; it consists of 28 males, 12 females, mean age 67.8 years, ranging 53-86 years. All patients underwent 18F-FDG-PET/ CT including two-phase CT-angiography of the kidneys, locally advanced or generalized renal cell carcinoma was suspected in all patients. The level of the 18F-FDG accumulation within the tumor was compared with the histological grading and the development of the disease was surveyed twelve months after 18F-FDG-PET/CT. Results. Overall mortality reached 45%, the highest 18F-FDG accumulation showed tumor of the grade 4 (mean SUV 10.4, ranging 5-22), the highest mortality was present in tumors exceeded the SUVmax value of 10 (mortality 63.6%). New information was brought by 18F-FDG-PET/CT in comparison to CT in 87.5%. 2’(3’)-0-[N- [2- [3- [5-fluoresceinyl] thioureido] ethyl] carbamoyl] adenosine 5’-triphosphate (FEDA-ATP), a spectroscopic tool used for studying skeletal muscle myosin ATPase subfragment 1, was applied to Na+/K+- ATPase (EC 3.6.1.37). In contrast to the myosin subfragment, we found that FEDA-ATP is not a substrate for Na + /K + -ATPase. On the other hand, FEDA-ATP showed an affinity for both the low (E2, K<j = 2001MM) and the high (Ei, Kd = 22,«M) affinity ATP-binding sites. When the microscopic affinities of FEDA-ATP were used for calculating the macroscopic affinity in the overall reaction according to Kj = (KdEl*KdE2)1/2, the experimentally measured inhibition constant of 66,wM was obtained. To evoke irreversible binding inhibitors, FEDA-ATP was transferred in its chromium (III) and cobalt(III) complex analogs, which are suitable tools for labelling the ATP binding sites of Na + /K+ -ATPase in a specific way.

In this paper, we prove that if a connected claw-free graph $G$ of order at least three satisfies the following two conditions: (i) for each locally disconnected vertex $v$ of degree at least $3$ in $G,$ there is a nonnegative integer $s$ such that $v$ lies on an induced cycle of length at least $4$ with at most $s$ non-singular edges and with at least $s-5$ locally connected vertices; (ii) for each locally disconnected vertex $v$ of degree $2$ in $G,$ there is a nonnegative integer $s$ such that $v$ lies on an induced cycle $C$ with at most $s$ non-singular edges and with at least $s-3$ locally connected vertices and such that $G[V (C)\cap V_{2} (G)]$ is a path or a cycle, then $G$ has a 2-factor, and it is the best possible in some sense. For $k \geq 1$, an identity $s \approx t$ of type $\tau $ is said to be $k$-normal (with respect to valuation $v$) if either $s = t$ or both $s$ and $t$ have value $\geq k$. Taking $k = 1$ with respect to the usual depth valuation of terms gives the well-known property of normality of identities. A variety is called $k$-normal (with respect to the valuation $v$) if all its identities are $k$-normal. For any variety $V$, there is a least $k$-normal variety $N_k(V)$ containing $V$, namely the variety determined by the set of all $k$-normal identities of $V$. The concept of $k$-normalization was introduced by K. Denecke and S. L. Wismath in their paper (Algebra Univers., 50, 2003, pp.107-128) and an algebraic characterization of the elements of $N_k(V)$ in terms of the algebras in $V$ was given in (Algebra Univers., 51, 2004, pp. 395--409). In this paper we study the algebras of the variety $N_2(V)$ where $V$ is the type $(2,2)$ variety $L$ of lattices and our valuation is the usual depth valuation of terms. We introduce a construction called the {\it $3$-level inflation} of a lattice, and use the order-theoretic properties of lattices to show that the variety $N_2(L)$ is precisely the class of all $3$-level inflations of lattices. We also produce a finite equational basis for the variety $N_2(L)$.

Opiate addiction has a high rate of relapse. The accumulating evidence shows that electroacupuncture (EA) may be effective for the treatment of opiate relapse. However, the change of expression of CB1-Rs and CB2-Rs involve in 2Hz EA anti-relapse pathway is still unclear. To explore the changes of expression of CB1-Rs and CB2-Rs, heroin self-administration (SA) model rats were adopted and treated using 2Hz EA. The expressions of CB1-Rs and CB2-Rs were observed using immunohistochemistry method. The results showed that, compared with the control group, active pokes in the heroin-addicted group increased, while the active pokes decreased significantly in 2Hz EA group compared with heroin-addicted group. Correspondingly, the expression of CB1-Rs in prefrontal cortex (PFC), hippocampus (Hip), nucleus accumbens (NAc) and ventral tegmental area (VTA) all increased significantly while the expression of CB2-Rs in those relapse-relevant brain regions decreased obviously in heroin-addicted group when compared with the control group. In addition, the expression of CB1-Rs obviously decreased in the 2Hz EA group while the expression of CB2-Rs in those relapserelevant brain regions increased significantly when compared with the heroin-addicted group. It indicated that 2Hz EA could attenuate the heroin-evoked seeking behaviors effectively. The anti-relapse effects of 2Hz EA might be related to the decrease of CB1-Rs and increase of CB2-Rs expression in relapse-relevant brain regions of heroin SA rats.
Quaternary faulting in the western part of the Gulf of Corinth has been evidenced by geology and geomorphology, as well as by seismic recording. A series of three main normal fault segments are aligned in a steep southern coastal zone of the gulf. These fault segments, 15 to 25 km long, have an average strike of 90° - 105° and a northward dip of about 50° - 75°. Selected fault points were equipped with 3-D crack gauges TM71 during 2002 to monitor movements along the fault planes here, as well as on another fault cutting through the small island of Trizonia near the opposite northern shore of the gulf. Results of the monitoring present relative displacements induced by active tectonic movement s. Generally, the movements recorded on the faults are characteristic of an aseismic linear creep in vertical, i.e. upliftin g/subsiding in rates of mm per year due to uplifts of the Peloponnesian Peninsula. In 2003 a thr ee months long period of fast acceleration of movements was recorded. During this acceleration phase displacements changed to skew uplifting/subsiding with a left-lateral horizontal component. a1_Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have an increased risk of premature mortality, mainly due to cardiovascular causes. The association between hemodialysis and accelerated atherosclerosis has long been described. The ankle-brachial index (ABI) is a surrogate marker of atherosclerosis and recent studies indicate its utility as a predictor of future cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality. The clinical implications of ABI cut-points are not well defined in patients with CKD. Echocardiography is the most widely used imaging method for cardiac evaluation. Structural and functional myocardial abnormalities are common in patients with CKD due to pressure and volume overload as well as non-hemodynamic factors associated with CKD. Our study aimed to identify markers of subclinical cardiovascular risk assessed using ABI and 2D and 3D echocardiographic parameters evaluating left ventricular (LV) structure and function in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) (patients undergoing dialysis), patients after kidney transplantation and non-ESRD patients (control). In ESRD, particularly in hemodialysis patients, changes in cardiac structure, rather than function, seems to be more pronounced. 3D echocardiography appears to be more sensitive than 2D echocardiography in the assessment of myocardial structure and function in CKD patients. Particularly 3D derived end-diastolic volume and 3D derived LV mass indexed for body surface appears to deteriorate in dialyzed and transplanted patients. In 2D echocardiography, myocardial mass represented by left ventricular mass/body surface area index (LVMI) appears to be a more sensitive marker of cardiac structural changes, compared to relative wall thickness (RWT), left ventricle and diastolic diameter index (LVEDDI) and left atrial volume index (LAVI)., a2_We observed a generally favorable impact of kidney transplantation on cardiac structure and function; however, the differences were non-significant. The improvement seems to be more pronounced in cardiac function parameters, peak early diastolic velocity/average peak early diastolic velocity of mitral valve annulus (E/e´), 3D left ventricle ejection fraction (LV EF) and global longitudinal strain (GLS). During routine processing of selected events of an active KTB experiment it has appeared doubts concerning data reliability and consequently the reliability of results based on them. In the paper 3 events are studied in detail, full seismic moment tensors, as well as their errors, are determined (by non-linear inversion of P/SH waves ratios). It is shown that for the processed low constrained data moment tensor (MT) can be determined, however the relative error is of order of first tens of percent; the results also considerably depend on the way of data picking, used medium model, way of Cost function construction, etc. Any subsequent geophysical interpretation therefore should takes into account this uncertainty.
