- Description:
Podává přehled stavu výzkumu, nálezové základny a přírodního prostředí sídelních regionů – dolního Poohří a Podřipska, Podkrušnohorského úvalu a středního Poohří, sleduje strukturu osídlení obou kultur a jeho datování. Rozdíly mezi situací v severozáp. a středních Čechách skýtají možnost sledovat na regionální úrovni proměny, k nimž zde v průběhu šesti fází středního eneolitu docházelo. and Baden and Řivnáč culture in northwest Bohemia. The work is based on a list of Baden culture finds and those from the ensuing Řivnáč culture in the territory of northwest Bohemia. It provides an overview of the status of research, the base for finds and the natural environment of the settlement regions – the lower and central Ohře River regions, Říp Hill surrounding and region under Krušné hory/Mts.: the work follows the settlement structure of both cultures and the dating of this settlement. Baden culture is represented here to a significantly weaker extent than in central Bohemian regions and settlement is not reliably documented until the later phase of the middle (classic) stage. On the other hand, the datable Řivnáč culture assemblages fall exclusively into its earlier stage, indicating that this culture existed here for a shorter period than in central Bohemia, most likely due to the arrival of the Globular Amphora culture. Perhaps this is the same reason there was no development of hillforts here as in central Bohemia. The differences between the situations in northwest and central Bohemia offer an opportunity to follow the transformations on the regional level that occurred here during the course of the six phases of the middle Eneolithic period.

- Description:
Všechny kovové artefakty byly podrobeny spektrálním analýzám pomocí RFA i NAA. Typologický rozbor nálezů prokázal jejich nesoučasnost – zatímco první depot lze klást do stupně Br A2, druhý depot byl uložen pravděpodobně až na přelomu starší a střední doby bronzové. Vztah obou depotů k mohylníku v jejich blízkosti zůstává zatím neznámý. and Two Early Bronze Age hoards in the burial mound grounds at Nová Ves (dist. Český Krumlov, South Bohemia). At the end of August 2008, two hoards featuring metal objects were discovered on an unnamed mound at Nová Ves in the district of Český Krumlov – a set of 10 ring ingots with the ends tucked into two spiralled arm bracelets and a deposit containing a Křtěnov-type battle axe and 12 fragments of pie-shaped sows. The second hoard was found in the grounds of a hitherto unknown burial mound, thus far featuring only ceramics from the Hallstatt period and a sole spiralled arm bracelet from the Early Bronze Age. An archaeological survey, a smaller probe and geodetic survey were then conducted at the site. All metal artefacts underwent RFA and NAA spectral analysis. The typological analysis of the finds demonstrated their asynchronism – while the first hoard can be placed into the Br A2 phase, the second was more than likely deposited only at the period between the Early and Middle Bronze Ages. The relation between the two hoards and the nearby mounds remains unknown.

- Description:
- Článek shrnuje informace o kultovním areálu doby halštatské na vrchu Burkovák u Nemějic v jižních Čechách. Je věnován zejména analýze nalezených keramických zlomků a fragmentů hliněných plastik. Po kompletní revizi autoři vyčlenili 21 základních typů a několik dalších variant. Celkový počet dnes dochovaných plastik z Burkováku, včetně zlomků keramických nádob, je 1855. Většina z plastik představuje symboly slunce, části zápřahu, napodobeniny šperků nebo předmětů z organických látek. Některé motivy měly významné postavení i v náboženských představách předcházející doby popelnicových polí; keramické předměty z Burkováku prozrazují vazbu na symboly této epochy. Aktivity v lokalitě lze datovat do Reineckových stupňů Ha C2-D2, příp. Ha D2/3. Závěr článku tvoří přehled dokladů soudobého osídlení v okolí Burkováku, které jsou zatím poměrně nečetné. and Ritual site from the Hallstatt Culture on Burkovák Hill near Nemějice. The article summarises information on a ritual site dating to the period of the Hallstatt culture and located on Burkovák Hill near Nemějice in Southern Bohemia. It focuses on the analysis of finds of ceramic fragments and fragments of clay sculptures. After a thorough examination of the finds, the authors identified 21 basic types and several additional varieties. The total number of extant sculptures from Burkovák to date, including the fragments of ceramic vessels, is 1855. The majority of the sculptures are symbols of the sun, parts of a yoke, and imitation jewellery or objects made of organic material. Some of the motifs held strong significance also in the religious beliefs of the preceding period of the Urnfield culture; the ceramic objects from Burkovák reveal a link to symbols from that period. The assemblage of sculptures from Burkovák is unique in Central Europe for its size, and the authors see the closest parallels to this site in the Venetian shrines in Northern Italy. Activity at this site can be dated to Reinecke’s schema periods Ha C2-D2, or perhaps Ha D2/3. The article closes with an overview of evidence of contemporary settlement in the area surrounding Burkovák, of which there is relatively little thus far.

- Description:
V závěru je předložena hypotéza o funkci a významu jeskyně v pozdní době halštatské. and The Býčí skála cave in the Moravian Karst and the Hallstatt use of its Southern Prong. The Býčí skála cave, one of the best known Hallstatt sites in Moravia, was subjected to archaeological investigation from 1868 to 1942. While Předsíň [Anteroom] offered an exceptionally rich Late Hallstatt period finds situation, Jižní boční síň [Southern Prong], some 100 m from the entrance, has entered the broader consciousness as an important Upper Palaeolithic site. The reports on the pre-war investigations, however, indicate that the space of the southern side chamber also contained numerous post-Palaeolithic finds (human bones, animal bones, ceramics). This study discusses the extent and character of this prehistoric activity, and compares Býčí skála to similar sites regarded as burial caves. The conclusion presents a hypothesis as to the function and significance of the cave in the Late Hallstatt period.

Nymburk) se uvažovaná souvislost s emailovanými ozdobami mladší köttlašské kultury zřetelněji neprojevuje. and On the origin of several early medieval finds in Bohemia. The work discusses three small finds from Bohemia previously attributed to the Köttlach culture, or the Carantanian cultural sphere. Such probable origin is presented for earrings or head decorations from Lékařova Lhota (České Budějovice distr.) and Nové Dvory (Beroun distr.); the finds likely date to the middle of the 9th century and were probably brought to Bohemia along the Danube Valley route. On the other hand, a small capital with the remnants of a stem from Libice (Nymburk district) did not demonstrate the speculated connection with the enamelled ornaments of the Late Köttlach culture.

- Archeologický a stavebně historický výzkum minoritského areálu v Mostě probíhal v letech 1971–1976 v souvislosti s likvidací významného historického města. Konvent stával takřka uprostřed města, k důležitým tématům proto patřilo archeologické svědectví o počáteční urbanizaci dané části městského jádra. and The Minorite Monastery in Most. An archaeological and building history study of the Minorite grounds in Most took place in 1971–1976 due to the liquidation of the notable historic town. The study focussed on learning about the development of the church and the reclusion of the Most Minorites in the 13th-14th centuries, and on unravelling the position of their convent within the town organism. The convent stood approximately in the town centre; archaeological testaments on the beginnings of urbanisation in the given town centre are therefore of utmost importance.

- Příspěvek publikuje prvé poznatky o opevněné městské lokalitě, nově zjištěné v lesnatém údolí říčky Okluky na východním okraji Drahanské vrchoviny na střední Moravě. Povrchový průzkum, prospekce pomocí detektoru kovů a drobné sondáže, realizované v letech 2002–2006, umožnily identifikovat ve svažitém říčním zákrutu oválný sídlištní areál 270 x 210 m (ca 3,5 ha), ohrazený zemním opevněním proměnlivé mocnosti a skladby. Vnitřní plochu tohoto útvaru zaujala intenzivní a systémově uspořádaná zástavba (sledovat lze zahloubené suterény, destrukce nadzemních staveb, technické objekty, ohrazení parcel). Lokace druhé poloviny 13. stol. vznikla zřejmě jako trhové středisko dominia pánů z Lešan, úzké vazby mohla mít i na těžbu a zpracování železných rud v těsném okolí. Po zániku na počátku 14. stol. se dále vyvíjel pouze protější sídelní komplex hradu Vícov; objasnění vzájemných relací obou objektů zůstává úkolem dalšího studia. and Městisko. Deserted 13th century town in the Prostějov region, central Moravia. The work publishes the first information about a fortified town site newly discovered in a wooded valley near Prostějov. Surface research, prospecting using a metal detector and small probes conducted between 2002 and 2006 enabled the identification of an oval-shaped settlement on sloping ground in a bend of the Okluka stream. The 270 x 210 m area (ca. 3.5 ha) is surrounded by earth fortifications of varying strength and composition. The inner area of the settlement was intensively and systematically built up (recessed cellars, the destruction of above-ground structures, technical objects, enclosure of parcels). The location was created in the second half of the 13th century, apparently as a market centre for the domain of the Lords of Lešany; the site may also be closely related to nearby mining and processing of iron ore. Following the decline of the settlement at the beginning of the 14th century only the neighbouring Vícov castle settlement continued to develop. An explanation of the relationship between the two settlements will be the subject of future study.

- Description:
Hrady byly rozděleny do tří skupin: hrady přechodného typu, hrady s obvodovou zástavbou a francouzské kastely (např. Navíc i přístup k pramenům a jejich hodnocení, které byly východiskem definice, vykazují zásadní věcné nedostatky. and On castles of the “transitional” type. This article is a contribution in the area of the typology of Bohemian High Medieval castles. The typology of 13th century royal castles in Bohemia was established thirty years ago, on the basis above all of archaeological excavations in the hunting grounds of the Czech kings. Castles were divided into three groups: castles of the transitional type, castles with perimeter buildings and French castels (e.g. Durdík 2002b). The finds situations of these excavations remain to this day unpublished, however. After critiques of the justification for the typological definition of the French castel (Razím 2002; 2005), the author now turns to an evaluation, from the same point of view, of castles of the transitional type, which supposedly stand at the line of division between Early Medieval fortifications and High Medieval castles. Analysis of all of the available information, however, leads to the conclusion that castles of the transitional type have not been justifiably defined. Moreover, even the approaches taken hitherto to the source material, and the evaluation of the latter – which formed the departure point for the definition – exhibit fundamental material shortcomings.

- Description:
Mikroregion 1 patří do povodí Ohře; z této strany dochází k neolitizaci celé kotliny. Vlastní kotlina byla kontinuálně osídlena od nejstaršího stupně LnK až do mladší fázeVK (IVb). and Settlement of the Rakovník district during the time of the Stroked Pottery culture. The subject of this paper is the settlement of the Rakovník district during the time of the Stroked Pottery culture and briefly the Linear Pottery culture as well. To date, no larger excavations focused on this period have been performed in the region – the highest Neolithic settlement region in Bohemia. The main credit for our knowledge of local prehistory goes to local collectors. Neolithic sites (31 in all, of which 23 are linear pottery and 26 with stroked pottery) are clustered into five microregions. Microregion 1 is in the Ohře watershed; from here neolithisation spread to the entire basin. Microregions 2–4 form the core settlement. Microregion 5, which lies in the Loděnice watershed, is located on the borders of the basin; it was settled later, from the east. Microregion 2 shows strong contacts with flint mining regions in lower Bavaria. It is thus likely that the local settlements to a large extent participated in the import and distribution of this raw material. The basin itself was continuously settled from the early linear pottery to the late stroked pottery period (IVb).

- Description:
- Práce se zabývá rozborem eneolitických artefaktů z vrchu Kotouče u Štramberka. Neo- a eneolitické nálezy odtud spadají do šesti časových horizontů, z nichž nejvýrazněji je doložen 2. (mladší stupeň MMK) a 3. horizont (epilengyel/jordanovská kultura) – ten zejména depoty a ojedinělými nálezy měděných artefaktů. Jde o nejstarší dosud známý exemplář těchto náprsních ozdob a zároveň o formu doplňující garnituru raně eneolitických prestižních předmětů. Přítomnost dvou unikátních kovových artefaktů na Kotouči – měděného pektorálu a stříbrné puklice, jež je nejstarším stříbrným výrobkem na sever od Alp – je dokladem významu této výšinné lokality v komunikačním prostoru Moravské brány. and An Early Eneolithic copper pectoral ornament from Kotouč Hill near the town of Štramberk. The paper concerns an analysis of Eneolithic artefacts from Kotouč Hill near the town of Štramberk. Neolithic and Eneolithic finds from this site fall into six time horizons, the most distinctly documented of which are the 2nd (later phase of Moravian Painted Ware culture) and 3rd horizon (Epilengyel/Jordanów culture) – the latter in particular by deposits and rare finds of copper artefacts. The work likewise addresses a crescent-shaped pectoral ornament, an artefact crafted from arsenical copper, probably in the northwestern Carpathian metallurgical area. The pectoral ornament is made from material identical to the Nógrádmarcal-type cruciform axe from the same collection, which is evidence in favour a dating to the Epilengyel horizon. This is the oldest known specimen of this breast ornamentation and a prestigious Early Eneolithic accessory item. The presence of two unique metal artefacts at Kotouč – the copper pectoral ornament and a silver disc with three bosses, which is the oldest silver artefact north of the Alps – is evidence of the significance of this upland site in the routes of the Moravian Gate pass.

Do okruhu vybraných otázek náleží: vývoj a charakter osídlení a opevnění, organizace plochy hradiště, charakter sídlištní zástavby, pohřbívání, sakrální stavby, doklady přítomnosti elity, doklady řemesel a obchodu, přírodní prostředí, charakter osídlení v okolí a zázemí hradiště. and The Early Medieval Budeč – the source material and a summary of knowledge (On the problem of central place function). This contribution is a balanced assessment of knowledge to date regarding the development and function of the hillfort at Budeč, one of the largest and archaeologically best investigated early medieval fortified sites in Bohemia. Among the questions raised are those of the development and character of settlement and fortification, the organisation of areas within the hillfort, the character of the settlement structures, burial, sacred structures, the presence of an elite, evidence for crafts and trade, the natural environment, the character of settlement around and in the hinterland of the hillfort.

- Description:
- Počáteční stadium eneolitu patří na území Čech k obdobím nálezově silně podreprezentovaným. Stále tedy má význam pracovat i s nedostatečně dokumentovanými materiály – což je případ nálezového souboru z Hřebče, lokality z jihozáp. výspy středočeské sídelní ekumeny. Jde zjevně o další příklad dlouhodobě zanášených objektů, příp. terénních muld. and The initial stage of the Eneolithic period is a period much under-represented on Bohemian territory. It therefore makes sense to continue working even with insufficiently documented materials – which is the case with the find assembly from Hřebeč (distr. Kladno), a site on the south-western edge of the Central Bohemian settlement ecumene. The assembly, collected apparently from a larger clay-pit, is noteworthy not only in terms of quality and number, but also in terms of chronological scope, covering the period from the Bohemian Late Lengyel to the Late Michelsberg/Early Funnel Beaker culture (ca. 4400/4300 – 3900/3800 BC cal.). This is evidently an example of long-term siltation of features, or low ground terrain, as shown in similar situations from Bohemia and Moravia.

Dále se zabývá chronologií raně středověké keramiky v lokalitě. Detailněji jsou probrány nálezy charakteru výrobních pyrotechnologických zařízení a archeologické doklady mincování v 11. století. Závěrem jsou porovnávány jednotlivé komponenty aglomerace – hrad, opevněné předhradí, jižní neopevněné předhradí a podhradí. and The current knowledge regarding Žatec in the Early Middle Ages. The submitted work provides a spatial demarcation of the early medieval Žatec agglomeration and addresses the development of this location. Due to the fact that the overwhelming majority of research has not yet been processed, the work approaches the subject in more general terms. The work likewise presents a chronology of early medieval ceramics at the site. Production pyrotechnical devices and archaeological minting artefacts from the 11th century are discussed in detail. The conclusion of the work offers a comparison of individual components of the agglomeration such as the castle, fortified bailey, the unfortified southern bailey, and the settlements below the castle.

- Description:
C) „Hrobové“ jámy bez kosterních pozůstatků a bez nálezů, ale s výraznou fosfátovou anomálií respektující svým tvarem i velikostí půdorys jámy. and Burial rites: uniform or diverse? Interpretation of the results of phosphate soil analysis at the Únětice culture burial site in Prague 9 – Miškovice. Phosphate soil analysis was successfully used as a supplement to archaeological and anthropological observations at the Early Bronze Age burial site in Prague 9 – Miškovice. In addition to „regular“ burials with complete preserved skeletons resting in an anatomical position, the soil analysis was used to document heretofore unknown forms of burial (approximately 45 % of all uncovered graves): A) The burial of separate bones (in some cases in caskets made from organic material) without soft tissue, often with gifts and characterized by complete or fragmentary skeletal remains spread out or arranged in the bottom of the grave pit, without a phosphate anomaly. B) So-called „cenotaph“ (empty) graves situated between other graves. The shapes of cenotaph graves do not differ from other graves, but do not contain any bones or other objects. The cenotaph graves do not have a phosphate anomaly, but one of them has a stone packing. C) „Grave“ pits with neither skeletal remains nor finds, but with a distinct phosphate anomaly respecting the shape and even the size of the grave.

- Description:
Dávat proto do souvislosti římské opevnění u Mušova s polním tažením v r. 6 po Kr. není odůvodněné. and The military subjugation of Maroboduus’ empire, planned for 6 AD by Augustus and Tiberius: a war without campaigns. The Roman military offensive against the heart of Maroboduus’ regnum in Bohemia in AD 6 – as described by C. Velleius Paterculus – never really began. The plan of campaign was a pincer movement by two Roman army groups, one commanded by Sentius Saturninus moving in from the Rhine while the other under Tiberius approached from the Danube. Contrary, however, to the rhetorical account by Velleius – who in his panegyric on Tiberius dramatised the campaign’s abortion as having been compelled by the Pannonian revolt before the generals could unite and join battle with the enemy – the two armies never left their deployment zones. It is therefore incorrect to connect the archaeological traces of Roman fortifications at Mušov-Burgstall, and the Augustan/Tiberian age artefacts excavated at the same site, with this war.

- Description:
Sledováním výskytu ozdob typických pro tento horizont lze na raně středověkých pohřebištích na Moravě a jihozápadním Slovensku vyčlenit ženské hroby, které byly uloženy v průběhu staršího velkomoravského období. and On the female jewellery of the Early Great Moravian period. This article aims to contribute to removing the discrepancy between the dating of male and female graves from Great Moravian cemeteries, amongst the causes of which is the late dating of the Veligrad jewellery set. It considers several, stratigraphically low-lying graves from Staré Město – Na valách that contain mature Veligrad jewellery; several of the types display similarities to jewellery known from the Late Avar milieu, which indicates that Veligrad jewellery existed at the beginning of the Great Moravian period and apparently even earlier. It is not only to Staré Město but also to several rural cemeteries (Dolní Věstonice, Prušánky) that the group of decorations comprising the fill of the “pre-Köttlach“ horizon, known from cemeteries of the Sopronkőhida-Pitten-Pottenbrunn type and dated to the last quarter of the 8th century, can be assigned. By following the appearance of decorations typical of this horizon it is possible for Early Medieval cemeteries in Moravia and South- West Slovakia to distinguish female burials interred during the Early Great Moravian period.
