Spony získané z oppidálního prostředí ukazují na jejich rámcové datování do rozmezí stupňů LT C2-D1. and The existing distribution of a distinct type of bronze fibula of the Middle La Tène construction with a decorated plate bow is restricted to Central Europe, with a pronounced concentration of finds in Bohemia and Moravia. This fact justifies their designation as “Boiian” fibulae, as proposed by J. Werner. The fibulae acquired from oppida indicate a general dating in the phases LT C2-D1.
Text mapuje působení amerických archeologů a antropologů v moravských lokalitách v období meziválečného Československa. V této době český antropologický a archeologický výzkum z USA nejvýznamněji ovlivňoval Aleš Hrdlička, jehož vliv se projevil i v kontaktu s Karlem Absolonem v Brně. Vedle toho o moravské paleolitické lokality jevily zájem i účastníci American School of Prehistoric Research, jejichž prostřednictvím se do různých sbírek v USA dostávala řada originálních nálezů z našich archeologických lokalit. and The text traces the work of American archaeologists and anthropologists at Moravian sites in Czechoslovakia between the two world wars. At the forefront of American anthropological and archaeological research in the country in this period was the Czech-born American Aleš Hrdlička, whose influence was also manifested in contacts with Karel Absolon in Brno. Participants from the American School of Prehistoric Research were also interested in Moravian Palaeolithic sites, and many original finds found their way into various collections in the USA from Moravian archaeological sites thanks to the activities of this institution.
Naše výsledky přispívají novými daty k poznání sociální dynamiky tohoto turbulentního období a nastavují odlišný obraz než dosud publikované analýzy projektilů z Moravy, čímž dokládají zřejmě odlišnou roli lukostřelby v jednotlivých ekonomicko-politicko-sociálních strukturách tehdejších společností, které identifikujeme jako tzv. archeologické kultury. and The article offers comprehensive information on chipped stone industry found in graves of the cemetery at Hroznová Lhota – Přední čtvrtky od Žabince, South Moravia (Hodonín distr.). The Early Bronze Age burial ground has been explored from 2012 to 2015; it comprises inhumation graves with characteristic features of Nitra and Únětice cultures. Chipped stone industry can unequivocally be classified as one of the material displays of the Nitra culture. The collection of chipped stone industry found consists by 84 % of lithic projectile points – arrowheads. Morpho-typological and use-wear analyses were carried out and the operational sequence was partly reconstructed. Our results contribute with new data to the knowledge of social dynamics in this turbulent period and show a different picture than the hitherto published analyses of arrowheads from Moravia, whereby they probably attest that archery has played a different role in individual economic – political – social structures of the then societies, whom we identify as the so-called archaeological cultures.
Jednotlivé výsledky včetně radiokarbonového datování a rozboru kamenné štípané industrie kladou pozici lokality do samého závěru posledního glaciálního maxima. and The archaeological rescue excavations of the Epigravettian open-air site Brno-Štýřice III, known since 1972 as Koněvova Street or, later, Vídeňská Street, were conducted in 2009 and 2011–2014. Besides chipped stone industry, also animal osteological material was found and gradually analysed and evaluated. This paper deals with the summarisation of the osteological remains uncovered during the last excavations conducted in 2012–2014. The animal bones were determined under their taxa and minimum number of individuals. Nevertheless, a high percentage of small bone fragments (partially used as fuel) could not be determined in detail. The paper also includes the results of C, N and Sr isotope analyses and analysis of seasonality. The preserved fauna, in which Mammuthus primigenius predominates, corresponds to the cold glacial period as well as to the results of isotope analyses. The spatial distribution of faunal remains agrees to the chipped stone industry. The numerous burnt bones found in the limited area indicate the existence of a Palaeolithic hearth. The results of each analysis (faunal, archaeological) and 14C dating place the occupation of the site into the climatically unfavourable final part of the LGT period.
Mimořádně významné jsou nálezy mincí, skládacích vážek, kupeckých závaží a pozdně nomádských třmenů. and The article presents the results of the archaeological excavation of the Kostice – Zadní hrúd site, conducted in 2009–2011. The investigated site, 1.5 km from the heart of the nearby Great Moravian centre at Pohansko, lies at the edge of the Dyje (Thaya) River floodplain on a nondescript sand dune. A total of 160 sunken features and two graves from various periods were investigated over the excavated area of 2,405 m2. The majority of finds were from the Early Middle Ages, with the peak of settlement falling between the tenth and twelfth centuries. In the ninth century, the local settlement was part of the subsistence base for the vast Great Moravian agglomeration at Pohansko; following the demise of Pohansko, the Kostice – Zadní hrúd settlement was transformed into a craft-agrarian and trade centre of the second level. Finds of coins, balance scales, merchants’ weights and late nomadic stirrups are of extraordinary importance.
Olovo bylo sice v době popelnicových polí vzácně již vyráběno a používáno, v technologické aplikaci při výrobě bronzového pancíře je však nálezem v depotu Ivančice 4 takto prokázáno poprvé. and Solid bronze armour components are a phenomenon that first appears in Central European find assemblages at the beginning of the Urnfield culture period. In addition to two parts of bronze helmets (Služín, Brno-Řečkovice) and an old find of a greave (Kuřim), this armour is also documented today in Moravia by a fragment of cuirass (Ivančice 4). The find context is unknown only in the case of the greave; the other artefacts come from hoards and are of Carpathian provenance. Typologically and based on the context of the hoards, the Moravian finds of bronze armour are dated to the period between stages B D2 and Ha B1. According to a material analysis, the sheet metal of the cuirass from the Ivančice 4 hoard is made from classic bronze that was mechanically shaped and subsequently treated by recrystallisation annealing. A bar from a PbSn alloy hammered into the edge of the shoulder cut-out of the cuirass served as a soft base for bending the edge. Although lead was occasionally made and used already in the period of the Urnfield culture, the find from the Ivančice 4 hoard marked the first time its technological application was demonstrated in the production of bronze cuirasses.
Jeho zaražení do země lze proto chápat nejspíše jako symbolickou součást rituálního aktu na okraji neosídleného krasového území, svým způsobem mystického a transcendentního prostoru. and Two bronze artefacts (head, butt), discovered randomly in the same location, come from a whole spear that was originally intentionally thrust by the point into the ground. The head is a rare type with a slender, sharply set blade with a ricasso; it is dated to the early stage of the Urnfield period and represents an import of southern provenance in Moravia. The similar elemental compound with a higher content of tin in both artefacts testifies to a common technological and geographic origin. Based on the shape of the head and the ricasso, the spear was intended for contact battle and was used, similar to a sword, for both thrusting and chopping. The spear was found in a terrain depression near a rock wall at the southern border of a karst territory, 5–7 km north of a settlement area of the Middle-Danube Urnfield culture. The thrusting of the spear into the ground can therefore probably be interpreted as a symbolic part of a ritual at the outskirts of the unoccupied karst territory which, in a sense, is a mystical and transcendental space.
On the basis of the refitting of chipped stone industry it has been possible to reconstruct and compare the reduction strategies of three prominent cultural complexes in Moravia during the Early Upper Palaeolithic. Thanks to such refitting, it is possible to describe the basic technological differences between the Bohunician, the Szeletian and the Aurignacian. and Na základě skládanek kamenné štípané industrie se podařilo zrekonstruovat a porovnat operační schéma tří význačných kulturních komplexů na Moravě na počátku mladého paleolitu. Díky těmto remontážím jsme schopni popsat základní technologické rozdíly mezi bohunicienem, szeletienem a aurignacienem.
K málo prozkoumaným výrobním odvětvím v protohistorii Moravy patří činnosti spojené s hutněním železa. V Olomouci-Neředíně bylo spolu s časně laténskou keramikou nalezeno více než 80 kg strusek, úlomky rud a velké množství tepelně postižené hlíny. Nálezy strusek z Olomouce-Neředína představují nejstarší doložené stopy hutnění na Moravě. and Among the little-investigated specialised production in Moravian Iron Age are activities related to iron metallurgy. Together with La Tène pottery, more than 80 kg of slag, fragments of ore and a large amount of heat-affected clay was found at Olomouc-Neředín, however, it was not possible to link their occurrence with production installations. Lahn-Dill-type ore was mainly processed, which had to be transported from a distance of 20–25 km. Radiocarbon dating of carbonised wood that came from slag points to the beginning of the Hallstatt period; it can however be assumed that production took place in the Late Hallstatt period or, rather, Early La Tène, and that the ‘old-wood’effect was reflected in the radiocarbon dating. Due to extensive deforestation of the landscape around Olomouc in later prehistoric times, the function of a supply area for wood coal from the vicinity of 15–20 km is under consideration. Finds of slag from Olomouc-Neředín are the earliest documented traces of bloomery smelting in Moravia.
čtvrtině 13. století. and Evidence of non-ferrous metallurgy from the end of the 12th century, discovered in Josefská St in Brno. A pit from the 12th/13th century excavated in the area of the pre-urban agglomeration of Brno produced a collection of small crucibles, mostly made from the rims of graphite clay storage vessels. Only one potsherd comes from a specialised smelting pot, also with an admixture of graphite. As a variety of analyses (XRF, SEM-EDX, EMPA) proved the presence of copper and zinc on the surface of the crucibles, we can therefore assume this probably relates to the production of brass objects. The find is further evidence of metal production in Brno of the 12th century. The production of large graphite crucibles expanded with the founding of the town in the second quarter of the 13th century, and the occurrence of these vessels indicates a new quality in metallurgical production.
Pro kulturní i absolutní zařazení velkých souborů předmětů, získaných výzkumy prakticky pod ornicí, scházejí nesporné morfologické, stratigrafické a jiné přírodovědné argumenty. Data vzešlá z těchto výzkumů autor porovnává s výsledky z precizně zkoumaných evropských lokalit. Současně shrnuje aktuální stav bádání o starém paleolitu v Evropě a do jeho kontextu řadí nejstarší doklady přítomnosti člověka z Čech a Moravy. and The aim of the article is to point out the uncertainty accompanying studies of the Palaeolithic period in Bohemia, particularly in recent publications. Indisputable morphological, stratigraphic and other natural science arguments are lacking for cultural and absolute classification of larger assemblages of finds obtained by terrain excavation. The author of the article compares the data resulting from these excavations with meticulously investigated European sites. At the same time, the author also summarises the current state of research into Early Palaeolithic Europe and classifies the oldest evidence of man in Bohemia and Moravia into its context.
V závěru je předložena hypotéza o funkci a významu jeskyně v pozdní době halštatské. and The Býčí skála cave in the Moravian Karst and the Hallstatt use of its Southern Prong. The Býčí skála cave, one of the best known Hallstatt sites in Moravia, was subjected to archaeological investigation from 1868 to 1942. While Předsíň [Anteroom] offered an exceptionally rich Late Hallstatt period finds situation, Jižní boční síň [Southern Prong], some 100 m from the entrance, has entered the broader consciousness as an important Upper Palaeolithic site. The reports on the pre-war investigations, however, indicate that the space of the southern side chamber also contained numerous post-Palaeolithic finds (human bones, animal bones, ceramics). This study discusses the extent and character of this prehistoric activity, and compares Býčí skála to similar sites regarded as burial caves. The conclusion presents a hypothesis as to the function and significance of the cave in the Late Hallstatt period.
Na jejich podkladě jsme přehodnotili dosavadní představy o chronologické pozici magdalénienu na Moravě. and New conventional radiocarbon data have been recently obtained from the Groningen laboratory for several Magdalenian sites of Moravia. These, together with the dates previously known for the Moravian Magdalenian, have been converted into calibrated dates using the INTCAL 04 calibration curve. On this basis earlier conceptions of the chronological position of the Magdalenian in Moravia have been re-evaluated.
S komunikací souvisí i podíl importovaných surovin. Role variability štípaných industrií je při posuzování teritoriality dvojznačná: výrobky s vysokým sociálním statusem (např. pečlivě opracované hroty) jakož i vzorky zvláštních surovin mohly cirkulovat i mezi nositeli různých kulturních tradic, a tím stírat jedinečnost industrií, kterou opět posilovala snaha o zdůraznění identity skupiny tradiční výrobou artefaktů určitého typu. Srovnání jednotlivých lokalit nasvědčuje daleko větší stabilitě osídlení (z níž mj. vyvěrá i teritoriální chování), než by odpovídalo tradiční představě potulného způsobu života pravěkých lovců-sběračů. and Regional patterns and territoriality of the Upper Palaeolithic Moravia. From the distribution and geography of sites, one can reconstruct the type of landscape inhabited for each Upper Palaeolithic period. This type differs chiefly in economic and/or social requirements, which may or may not be similar in individual cultures. Sometimes, it was the distance of the inhabited region from the communication arteries, rather than landscape morphology, which played the major part. There also is a direct connection between communications and transport of alien raw materials. Less clear is the role of the lithic typology. Here it is not the question of the possible differences in activities but rather the considerably underestimated social role of the chipped industry composition. Tools showing high social status (highly elaborated weapons), bearing the role of social communication, can get into a quite different social milieu. On the contrary, the spectrum of lithic industries of the same initial tradition may become diversified to strengthen the group identity in a symbolic way. Even the variability of adornments or even artistic features can operate in this way. On the other hand, it is a fact that the ideological subsystems, reflecting art as well, are common to populations over a large territory. The comparison indicates much greater degree of regional patterns than would correspond to the traditional concept of nomadic hunter-gatherers.
Článek seznamuje s kolekcí forem z Prostějova – Kostelecké ulice. Exempláře jsou významné velmi dobrým stavem dochování, některými unikátně zachovanými stopami výrobně-technologického rázu, ikonografií a v neposlední řadě i různou mírou tvůrčí invence autora. Vedle výtvarně suverénně provedeného, nadstandardně kvalitního portrétního poprsí tvoří kolekci zlidovělý motiv jezdce na koni, k němuž je znám analogický kachel. Třetí exemplář představuje nenáročnou vegetabilní variaci. Výrobně-technologické aspekty a formální podoba naznačují původ všech těchto forem v jedné dílně. Datování exemplářů je možné klást do počátku 2. pol. 16. století. and The article covers the collection of moulds from Kostelecká St. in the city of Prostějov, Central Moravia. The specimens are important in terms of their very good state of preservation, some uniquely preserved traces of manufacturing and technological elements, their iconography and, last but not least, in terms of the ingenuity of the creator of the specimens. Over and above the masterful work and top quality of a portrait bust, the collection comprises a folk-like motif of a rider on a horse, an analogy of which is known from a stove tile. The third specimen features a simple plant variation. Their manufacturing and technological aspects, and formal appearance indicate that all these moulds come from one workshop. Dating of these specimens indicate an origin in the second half of the 16th century.
Článek představuje nález cášského keramického rohu z prostoru zaniklé středověké vsi Rakousky, dnes k. ú. Kralice na Hané, okr. Prostějov, který disponuje spolehlivým nálezovým kontextem. Jedná se o první bezpečně rozpoznaný exemplář tohoto specifického druhu artefaktu z území Moravy a jeden z mála kusů pocházejících z českých zemí vůbec. Jeho publikace rozšiřuje dosud známé spektrum devocionálií (nejen) cášského původu a v rovině obecné ilustruje zbožnost, a především vysokou mobilitu středověkého člověka. and The article presents the find of a ceramic pilgrim horn from the deserted medieval village of Rakousky in the cadastre of Kralice na Hané, Prostějov district, Central Moravia, a site that provides a reliable find context. The artefact is the first positively identified specimen of its kind in Moravia and one of the few from the Czech lands as a whole. The publication of the find expands the known spectrum of devotional (and other) artefacts of Aachen origin and, on a general level, illustrates the piety and, above all, the high mobility of medieval man.
A recently acquired collection of 1332 knapped stone and 15 pebble or platy slate artefacts were analyzed to verify the dating and origin of the well-known Magdalenian site Hranice III – Velká Kobylanka in the Moravian Gate (Moravia, Czech Republic). The inhabitants of the site were processing a number of local knapped stone materials rather than long-distance imports, though (locally available) erratic flints were mostly used for tool manufacture. The most prominent as regards the typology of tools are a number of microlithic triangles, already recorded in an older assemblage from the site, indicating the Older Dryas age of the collection. The absence of raw materials from the south-west (e. g. the Olomučany chert) and typological analogies from Eastern Germany and Poland indicate that the Magdalenians from Hranice may have represented a colonization wave independent of the one that probably settled dozens of caves of the Moravian Karst. The only 14C date acquired by us from the surface comes from the Atlanticum chronozone (Holocene) and dates some younger activity at the site. and Analýza nově získaného souboru 1332 ks štípané industrie a 15 valounových nebo destičkovitých břidlicových artefaktů byla provedena pro ověření datace a původu známé lokality Hranice III – Velká Kobylanka v Moravské bráně.
Aplikovány byly dvě hlavní metody EDX a hydrostatické stanovení hustoty kovu. Zjištěné výsledky jsou interpretovány v rámci současného numismatického diskursu. Stranou nezůstala ani diskuse o technických omezeních použitých metod a jejich věrohodnosti. and The article involves a material analysis of a unique assemblage of coins from the second half of the tenth century from the Kostice – Zadní hrúd site in the Czech Republic. The two main methods of EDX and hydrostatic weighing were employed, and the results are interpreted within the contemporary numismatic discourse. The credibility and technical limitations of the employed methods are likewise discussed.
This paper deals with the personality and the work of the noble, writer and intellectual Maximilian count Lamberg (1729–1792) which was already examined by several Czech historians (Polišenský, Kroupa, Cerman). Firstly, the paper evaluates the current state of research to show that despite of the attention of researchers focused on this personality, there are still lot of contexts and details which remain unknown. Secondly, the paper analyses the question of the relevance and the historical value of Lamberg’s conserved works which are situated between memories, essays and autobiographical fiction. In the main part of the paper, the thesis of Jiří Kroupa, which assumes the appurtenance of Maxmilian Lamberg both to the Moravian milieu and to the European Republic of letters, is examined. Lamberg’s accessible works, not only the most famous Mémorial d’un mondain but also the other books, are used as a base of the research.
Příspěvek publikuje prvé poznatky o opevněné městské lokalitě, nově zjištěné v lesnatém údolí říčky Okluky na východním okraji Drahanské vrchoviny na střední Moravě. Povrchový průzkum, prospekce pomocí detektoru kovů a drobné sondáže, realizované v letech 2002–2006, umožnily identifikovat ve svažitém říčním zákrutu oválný sídlištní areál 270 x 210 m (ca 3,5 ha), ohrazený zemním opevněním proměnlivé mocnosti a skladby. Vnitřní plochu tohoto útvaru zaujala intenzivní a systémově uspořádaná zástavba (sledovat lze zahloubené suterény, destrukce nadzemních staveb, technické objekty, ohrazení parcel). Lokace druhé poloviny 13. stol. vznikla zřejmě jako trhové středisko dominia pánů z Lešan, úzké vazby mohla mít i na těžbu a zpracování železných rud v těsném okolí. Po zániku na počátku 14. stol. se dále vyvíjel pouze protější sídelní komplex hradu Vícov; objasnění vzájemných relací obou objektů zůstává úkolem dalšího studia. and Městisko. Deserted 13th century town in the Prostějov region, central Moravia. The work publishes the first information about a fortified town site newly discovered in a wooded valley near Prostějov. Surface research, prospecting using a metal detector and small probes conducted between 2002 and 2006 enabled the identification of an oval-shaped settlement on sloping ground in a bend of the Okluka stream. The 270 x 210 m area (ca. 3.5 ha) is surrounded by earth fortifications of varying strength and composition. The inner area of the settlement was intensively and systematically built up (recessed cellars, the destruction of above-ground structures, technical objects, enclosure of parcels). The location was created in the second half of the 13th century, apparently as a market centre for the domain of the Lords of Lešany; the site may also be closely related to nearby mining and processing of iron ore. Following the decline of the settlement at the beginning of the 14th century only the neighbouring Vícov castle settlement continued to develop. An explanation of the relationship between the two settlements will be the subject of future study.
